Argonne National Laboratory Postdoctoral Appointee - Thermochemistry of Gas-Phase and Condensed-Phase Chemical Species in United States

The Chemical Sciences and Engineering Division at Argonne National Laboratory is seeking a Postdoctoral Appointee who, under the guidance of a supervisor, will be involved in determining accurate thermochemistry of gas-phase and condensed-phase chemical species via the Active Thermochemical Tables (ATcT) approach. The position involves a considerable amount of computational work, using a variety of computational techniques, including sophisticated electronic structure methods.

The work also includes some computer programming to facilitate computational workflows and to perform additional processing, interpreting, and critically evaluating of thermochemical, thermophysical, and spectroscopic data, as well as organizing and developing pertinent aspects of the public ATcT website.

Position Requirements

  • This level of knowledge is typically achieved through a formal education at the Ph.D. degree level with zero to three years of experience or equivalent in the scientific application of this knowledge and practical computational experience

  • Knowledge of thermochemistry and state-of-the-art composite electronic structure computational approaches

  • Considerable knowledge of gas-phase chemical physics, chemical reaction dynamics and kinetics. Considerable experience in running standard electronic structure codes

  • Experience in extracting, interpreting, and critically evaluating thermochemical and thermophysical data from primary scientific literature

  • Good programming skills using common computer languages

This position description documents the general nature and level of work but is not intended to be a comprehensive list of all activities, duties and responsibilities required of job incumbent. Consequently, job incumbent may be required to perform other duties as assigned.
