New York University Opportunity Programs Biology Adjunct Instructor & Tutor in United States
The Opportunity Programs at New York University seek an experienced biology adjunct instructor for the Summer 2022 Term.

Reports To: Associate Director, Academic Services
The Opportunity Programs’ non-credit courses (NCCs) are designed to enhance and reinforce students’ understanding of their credit-bearing course material.
Responsibilities
Confident in teaching a wide range of Biology and science courses (Strong preference for Molecular & Cell, Biology I & II, Anatomy & Physiology, etc, additional courses may include General Chemistry I & II, Organic Chemistry I & II, Physics, Pathophysiology)

Work with the Academic Services team to design common objectives aligned with the credit-bearing course and participate in developing and improving delivery of course instructional content.
Familiarize self with credit-bearing courses to ensure that subject area support is appropriate in the NCC.
On a weekly basis, report all student absences and tardies from courses and/or the NCC to the Associate Director, Academic Services and the appropriate OP student counselor.
At least twice a semester, evaluate and communicate progress of assigned students and report to Associate Director, Academic Services.
If applicable to adjunct appointment, maintain office hours that meet the students’ needs.
If applicable, provide academic tutoring to students individual or in groups.
Work with Associate Director, Academic Services and Assistant Director, Counseling as well as OP Instructional Specialists to develop a uniform approach for solving student problems and facilitating the type of instruction that will maximize the students’ academic achievement.
Develop with the Academic Services team (Associate Director, Academic Services and OP Instructional Specialists) uniform standards for grading students.
Refer disciplinary concerns to the Associate Director, Academic Services and the Assistant Director, Counseling.
When individual and/or group meetings with students occur, keep records in the platform specified by the Opportunity Programs, i.e. NYU Connect
Highly encouraged to participate in the Opportunity Programs’ required staff meetings, activities, and special events.
Work Evaluation
- Work in this role will be evaluated each semester by course evaluations completed by students at the end of the semester. Tutoring is evaluated on a bi-weekly basis, based on student feedback. Classes may be visited by the Associate Director of Academic Services for observation and review purposes. Faculty meetings are held regularly throughout the academic year.
Pay Rate
- Individual tutoring sessions rate is $52.02 per hour. Rate varies for Adjunct Faculty hours and group tutoring sessions
Position Period
- Successful applicants may begin immediately. Successful applicants may be renewed each semester
Requirements
Minimum of enrolled/completed Master’s degree in a science field, preferably Biology, or current enrollment in a PhD program.
Instructional experience of at least 2 years preferred.
Past experience in instructing a college level course with similar content. Significant professional experience may substitute this requirement.
Experience in teaching on-site and in remote settings.
Have a significant history of maintaining a high standard of professionalism, i.e. regularly prepared for class with course material, ready to engage students in a safe learning environment, punctuality, etc.
Have knowledge and experience working with diverse student populations and in diverse settings and/or working with traditionally underrepresented students. Preferred experience working in a higher education setting.
Available to teach and tutor in person on campus at NYU.
