Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This is a Lock and Dam Equipment Mechanic WY-10/11 position with USACE Little Rock District, Operations Division; with the McClellan Kerr Project Office, Pine Bluff Site Office, Location: Altheimer and Tichnor, AR. This position is exclusively represented by Local IBEW 2114. Responsibilities Principal mechanic at a large lock and dam site Implement and maintain site-specific program of scheduled inspections, test operations, and preventative maintenance of a wide variety of electrical, electronic, hydraulic, and mechanically interlocking facility equipment and controls Schedule day-to-day maintenance and repair work Short and Long term preventative maintenance planning Perform complex troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical navigation equipment issues Responsible for diagnostic maintenance inspection Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Competitive Positions to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Minimum Qualifications for the WY-10: (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) LOCK AND DAM EQUIPMENT MECHANIC without more than normal supervision. This includes: preventative maintenance and minor repairs to mechanical AND/OR electrical equipment and systems containing hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical controls at a navigation and/or industrial facility. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Minimum Qualifications for the WY-11: (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n)LOCK AND DAM EQUIPMENT MECHANIC without more than normal supervision. This includes: preventative maintenance and major repairs to mechanical AND electrical equipment and systems containing hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical controls at a navigation and/or industrial facility.- Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: Work requires frequent standing, stooping, stretching, climbing and crouching. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Uses coordination of eyes, hand and feet, and also of legs and body in installing, repairing, or testing equipment in confined areas such as manholes. Climbs ladders and poles. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside during the day and at night, as required by emergencies, on high structures over water that is frequently turbulent, in the proximity of moving machinery and high tension electrical wires, and on scaffolds or slings. Occasionally, works behind bulkhead or in tunnels below water level. Is subject to falls, drowning, electrical shocks, injury and discomfort, exposure to moving equipment, machinery, loud noises, inclement weather, and dangerous icy conditions. Uses safety equipment such as life vest, protective hearing devices, hard hat, hard-toe shoes, respirators, and protective clothing. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.
