Job Summary
Performs semi-skilled or unskilled work associated with landscape and grounds maintenance within Collier County Parks & Recreation.
Essential Functions
• Performs various tasks involving grounds maintenance or landscaping projects; mows grass; edges landscaped areas, public areas, parking lots, sidewalks, and fence lines; plants and maintains trees, shrubs, and flowers; waters flowers, grass, and landscaped areas; weeds flower beds; trims trees, hedges, and shrubs; cuts down trees and tree limbs; grinds stumps; installs/lays sod; aerates, seeds, fertilizes, and waters grounds; applies herbicides and pesticides; spreads pine straw, mulch, and other grounds materials; rakes and disposes of grass clippings, brush, and other materials; blows leave/debris from walkways; picks up and disposes of debris/litter from grounds and parking lots; empties trash containers; remove dead animals from grounds or roadways; hauls garbage, tree limbs, and vegetation to a landfill or other designated location; dig holes/trenches and shovels materials.
• Performs various tasks involving maintenance of parks, athletic fields, and recreational facilities; drags, grooms, and top-dresses ball fields; spreads clay in ball fields; measures, marks, lays out, and paints playing fields and lines according to specifications; installs, repairs, or adjusts pitching rubbers, home plates, and bases; maintains tennis, basketball, and bocce courts; replaces and repairs tennis nets and volleyball nets; installs and repairs tennis windscreens; repairs playground equipment; maintains boat launching ramps and boat docks; maintains playground and recreational equipment; repairs gates and fences; assembles and repairs bleachers, benches, and picnic tables; sets timers for lights and irrigation systems; sweeps and blows out dugouts; removes debris from fields, grounds, and lake.
• Operates a variety of machinery, equipment, and tools associated with division projects.
• Performs general cleaning/maintenance tasks necessary to keep equipment and tools in operable condition, which may include inspecting equipment, checking/replacing fluids, refueling vehicles, greasing equipment, washing/cleaning equipment, cleaning project work areas, or cleaning shop; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment.
• Transports, loads, and unloads equipment and materials used in projects; transports crew workers to/from work sites.
• Monitors inventory levels of supplies and materials; ensures availability of adequate supplies, tools, and materials to conduct work activities; initiates requests for new/replacement materials.
• Follows safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors the work environment to ensure the safety of employees and other individuals.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:
• Aids other employees or divisions as needed.
• Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• 2 months of related experience preferred.
• Fingerprinting Required.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATES:
• Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License with any applicable endorsement(s) to drive a County vehicle as provided in CMA 5805.
Supplemental information
Salary offers above the minimum pay grade may be considered based on qualifications.
Essential Employees may be required to work during an undeclared or declared emergency. The County’s Administrative Office will determine who will be required to work on an incident-by-incident basis.
