MTF IIAM Organ Placement Coordinator (Part Time) in United States

Overview/Risks

The Organ Placement Coordinator is responsible for facilitating all activities related to allocating and utilizing human organs from donors for medical research. Must possess first-hand knowledge and experience in performing organ allocation for transplantation to perform medical-criteria screening, organ allocation and placement, coordination of operating room surgical recovery time with organ readiness, organ transportation and travel logistics, communication and documentation. Must be able to maintain critical thinking in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing and executing time sensitive tasks for multiple organ donors simultaneously. Follows cases through various phases of the donation process during business and non-business hours including weekends and holidays. Serves as a representative of IIAM and MTF Biologics, communicating with various organizations including Organ Procurement Organizations (OPOs), research entities, and other key individuals and groups in a manner that reflects positively on the organization. Potential to move into full time position.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize existing knowledge of applicable Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) policy and organ donation timeline to carry out allocation of Liver, Heart, Lungs, Pancreas, Kidneys,Intestine and other tissues for research.

  • Serve as the main source of donor information throughout thescreening, allocation, and procurement process between OPOs and research organizations.

  • Applies organ allocation strategy to maximize utilization and prevent organ waste.

  • Reviews donor medical history, clinical information, labs, etc within UNOS (United Network of Organ Sharing) DonorNet system and relay relevant information to research entities.

  • Screen donors against multiple research projects across the country and globe utilizing known project criteria.

  • Interact with OPO to obtain legal documents for authorization.

  • Effectively and clearly communicate donor medical information to matching research organizations in order to allocate. Request additional information and tests from OPO as needed.

  • Assess situations for bypassing typical allocation priority order.

  • Coordinate with all applicable parties to ensure organ transportation timing aligns with surgical recovery.

  • Arrange organ ground and air transportation and create case-specific transportation strategies to minimize strict organ ischemia times that typically time out within 12-24hrs of surgical recovery.

  • Work with stakeholders to reduce risks to organ utilization. Proactively identify obstacles, work towards solutions, and escalate high-risk situations as necessary.

  • Communicate with organ recovery team or designees to capture and relay organ quality information.

  • Review and share organ recovery documentation, intraoperative documentation, and organ anatomy paperwork.

  • Ensure documentation related to donation events in EDR (electronic donor record) is completed accurately and timely.

  • Provide the highest level of customer service and professionalism at all times.

  • Perform all aspects of role in accordance with IIAM SOPs and in compliance with MTF Core Values, company policies and standards as well as those of applicable regulatory bodies

  • Participate in case review and process improvement meetings with the goal of increasing organ utilization and efficiencies.

  • Attend monthly Placement Coordinator meetings as requested.

  • Serve as a preceptor to new hires as directed.

  • Assist with special projects and performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in biology or other health related field or a Combination of Education and/or Equivalent Work Experience

  • 2 Years Organ Allocation experience at an OPO, or other equivalent training

  • Required Organ Allocation Experience with Organ Procurement Organization (OPO) or UNOS

  • Work simultaneously on several organ donor allocations, each at varying stages of the organ donation Maintain a broad understanding of and commitment to the organ and tissue donation process. Complete time sensitive tasks crucial for successful organ utilization.

  • Familiarity with basic medical terminology

  • Excellent time management skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, electronic communication, data entry in electronic medical record

  • High level of communication skills
