ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level.
With some direction and training from the supervisor and more experienced engineers, produces and checks hydrologic flood frequency analysis and hydraulic designs of culverts, bridges, and storm drains
Performs flood frequency analysis and hydraulic analysis using computer programs
Collects and assembles the needed data for analysis
Prepares input files (data) for computer programs that perform the analyses and compiles output in reports
Ensures the designs of other engineers meet technical and policy project requirements
Checks assumptions and design calculations for conformance with governing policy, accuracy, and completeness
Prepares draft reports and notebooks containing the hydrologic and hydraulic analysis
Gives written and oral guidance to less experienced engineers and technicians during the hydrologic and hydraulic design process to ensure they meet technical and policy requirements
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of Engineering hydraulics, flow through bridge waterways, hydrology, and statistical frequency of floods for various watersheds; hydrologic/hydraulic design theory and accepted practices
Skilled in the use of computer applications for hydrology, hydraulic design, and office automation
Knowledge of WYDOT Operating Policies, National Environmental Policy Act, Clean Water Act, National Flood Insurance Program, Federal Highway Administration guidelines, AASHTO Specifications
Knowledge and understanding of the WYDOT project/plan development procedures and project flow charts
Knowledge of engineering fundamentals relating to highway geometrics, bridge design, and geotechnical engineering, as they relate to department practice
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree (in Engineering)
Experience:
0-3 years of progressive work experience (in Engineering) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Engineer I.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Engineer in Training (EIT) License or Fundamentals in Engineering (FE) Required.
Necessary Special Requirements
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Ability to sit/stand and operate equipment for long periods of time
Work outdoors for extended periods of time in adverse environmental conditions
Work around heavy machinery

**Qualifying eligibility and criteria for the hiring bonus:
Temporary employees accepting a part time permanent position
Acceptance of a permanent full-time non-exempt/exempt position posted for public recruitment
Current employees accepting a promotional opportunity - recruitment must have been opened to the public
One year of service to WYDOT must be completed, failure to complete this requirement will forfeit the hiring incentive, funds will be recouped from final pay.
Internal candidates would be required to remain in the position for a minimum of one (1) year from their promotion date.
Employees would only be eligible for one (1) hiring bonus in a 12 month period.
If the employee elects to downgrade through an active recruitment and/or appointment during the twelve (12) month period, they would be required to pay the bonus back.
