About the Role:

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Federal Security Officer for a part-time, contract position, specializing in personnel security onboarding for government contracts. The ideal candidate will manage the security clearance process for new hires, ensuring compliance with federal regulations and maintaining the highest standards of security. This role is essential in ensuring that all personnel meet the necessary security requirements to work on federal contracts. 

Key Responsibilities : 

  • Personnel Security Onboarding: 

  • Manage and coordinate the onboarding process for personnel requiring security clearances. Guide new hires through the application and approval process for security clearances, including initial applications, renewals, and upgrades.

  • Security Clearance Processing: 

  • Prepare, submit, and track security clearance applications through the appropriate government channels (e.g., e-QIP, JPAS/DISS). Ensure timely processing and resolution of any issues or delays.

  • Regulatory Compliance: 

  • Ensure all personnel security processes are compliant with federal regulations, including NISPOM, ICD 704, and other applicable guidelines. Stay updated on changes in federal security regulations and implement necessary adjustments.

  • Training & Awareness: 

  • Provide training and briefings to employees on security protocols, the clearance process, and their responsibilities regarding information and personnel security.

  • Record Keeping & Documentation: 

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of security clearances, including status updates, renewal dates, and any incidents. Ensure all documentation is properly stored and accessible for audits or inspections.

  • Security Audits & Inspections: 

  • Assist with internal and external security audits and inspections. Prepare necessary documentation and ensure the organization is in compliance with all security requirements .

  • Incident Reporting: 

  • Monitor and report any security incidents or violations related to personnel security. Conduct investigations as needed and take appropriate corrective actions.

  • Collaboration: 

  • Work closely with HR, contract management, and program managers to ensure all personnel involved in federal contracts meet security clearance requirements. Provide regular updates on the status of clearances and any potential risks.

    Required Skills/Abilities, Experience :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Security Management, Criminal Justice, or a related field.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in personnel security, security clearance processing, or a similar role, particularly within federal or government contracting environments.

  • Experience in managing and coordinating the onboarding process for personnel requiring security clearances, including guiding applicants through initial applications, renewals, and upgrades.

  • Proficiency in preparing, submitting, and tracking security clearance applications using government systems such as e-QIP, JPAS, or DISS, with the ability to resolve issues and expedite processing.

  • Strong understanding of federal security regulations, including NISPOM, ICD 704, and related guidelines, with experience in ensuring organizational compliance and adapting to regulatory changes.

  • Ability to develop and deliver training sessions and briefings on security protocols, clearance processes, and personnel security responsibilities to ensure compliance and security awareness among staff.

  • Skilled in maintaining accurate and comprehensive records of security clearances, including status tracking and incident documentation, with an emphasis on accessibility for audits and inspections.

  • Experience in supporting security audits and inspections, preparing necessary documentation, and managing the reporting and investigation of security incidents, including implementing corrective actions.
