Western Area Power Administration Environmental Protection Specialist in United States
Summary This position is part of the WAPA-UGP-Upper Great Plains. As a Environmental Protection Specialist, you will assist managing the hazardous waste program and the environmental compliance program. At full performance level you will have additional responsibility for management of these program. This is not a remote position. The selectee will be required to be physically present at one of the duty location(s) identified. Responsibilities The incumbent performs environmental protection activities for Western Area Power Administration (WAPA), Upper Great Plains (UGP), South Dakota Maintenance Office (SDMO). Principal duties include identifying regulatory requirements and matching them to WAPA program activities to ensure WAPA is in compliance. Major duties include managing the hazardous and toxic materials program, administering an environmental inspection program, and providing guidance and technical assistance to other WAPA employees. Qualifications Qualifications: General Schedule Qualification Standards (opm.gov) Group coverage Qualification Standard for Administrative and Management Positions Specialized Experience: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the next lower grade level in the federal service At the GS-11 level: Under close supervision- 1) managing hazardous and toxic material program, (2) administering an environmental compliance inspection program, At the GS-12 level: Independently- (1) managing hazardous and toxic material program, (2) administering an environmental compliance inspection program, and (3) providing guidance and technical assistance to other employees. Education At the GS-12 level education cannot be substituted for experience. At the GS-11 level education or a combination of education and experience can be used. See Qualification section. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
