Salary:

$3,657.33 - $6,930.73 per month commensurate with experience.

Job Description Summary:

Under direct supervision, the Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator I assists in the management, implementation, and maintenance of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) and Risk Management Programs at the RELLIS Campus. The position coordinates within the full spectrum EHS and Risk Management task, from preventative mitigation to assessment reporting as well as other related activities (i.e.: training, building proctor, and after-hours emergency response). The position supports all aspects of an EHS program to ensure a safe, healthy and comfortable environment for employees, students, and visitors. The position adheres to requirements to ensure compliance with applicable Federal, State, and local regulatory agencies, as well as Texas A&M University System (TAMUS) policies and regulations. This position will also help support the RELLIS emergency Management and Operations Programs.

Responsibilities:- Manages the regular environmental health and safety inspections and site visits to RELLIS facilities and ensures compliance with applicable standards. Provides reports, letters, information, and support to ensure correction of related violations, inadequacies, objectives, programs, etc.- Maintains current knowledge of applicable laws and requirements. Creates programs in support of and reports in compliance with regulatory agencies and National guidelines such as but not limited to Texas Department of Health (TOP), National Fire Protections Association (NFPA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and Texas Commission of Environmental Quality (TCEQ).- Maintains comprehensive manuals, guides, checklists, presentations, procedures, and policies for EHS programs as well as the review of proposed research and sponsored program projects to determine impact on environmental health, safety, and risk management.- Collaborates with Facilities managers and Principal Investigators on assessment findings and provides appropriate recommendations based on regulatory compliance and best practice guidance.- Conducts programmatic assessment and management of health and safety for teaching and research laboratories for the RELLIS campus.- Manages chemical and compressed gas inventory throughout the campus.- Manages chemical fume hood and biological safety cabinet repairs, and annual certifications.- Manages and responds to alarms and hazardous waste releases on campus ensuring the appropriate measures are taken to resolve the issue.- Assists in the completion of special projects in support of RELLIS Campus.- Coordinate and support the RELLIS Operations Center.- Assists in scheduling trainings to include, but not limited to, emergency management, safety, and general campus operations.- Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience in environmental health and safety preferred. - Experience in emergency management preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication, customer service and problem-solving skills.- Strong planning, organizational and interpersonal skills.- Understanding of safety equipment appropriate for areas of responsibility.- Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.- Excellent written communication, analytical and organizational skills.- Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree Environmental Health and Safety or Safety-related field. - Four years of experience in Higher Education in an Environmental and Health associated role. - Possesses some training in emergency management - Professional Certifications: CSHO, OHST, CHST, CHMM, CSP, CIH, Licensed Texas Mold Assessment Technician and Asbestos Inspector Fire Inspector II Certification (ICC, NFPA, TCFP, IFSAC, or equivalent) or the ability to acquire a Fire Inspector II Certification (ICC, NFPA, TCFP, IFSAC, or equivalent) within 6 months.
