The primary purpose of this position is to develop broad gauged individuals who can deal effectively with change and complexity within the Air Force environment as it relates to their career field. Responsibilities Performs engineering work in support of conventional projects or portions of larger projects and programs under the guidance of a senior engineer. The incumbent must apply judgment in the independent application of the professional methods and techniques previously learned. Draws upon well-established approaches, criteria and practices of the profession, and uses typical engineering calculations and considerations in making minor modifications. Plans and carries out the collection and analysis of information, data and standards used by the assigned organization to perform mechanical engineering tasks. Research problems and issues to identify cause and develops solutions which take into consideration the methods and techniques of various professional engineering disciplines. Plans work procedures and selects standard practices and data to be applied to work projects and identified problems. Carries out special projects designed to facilitate the full use of the intern's training and development. Such assignments include the development of written summaries and reports to be used by higher level engineers, contractors and/or customers; leading teams of co-workers in completion of a conventional project; serving as a team member on large, complex studies; etc. Uses engineering manuals, standard publications and technical material to obtain information and pertinent data. Develops and presents briefings or presentations as required. Keeps abreast of emerging technologies and professional developments to maintain current in the field and for application to work assignments. Uses computers/computer software such as analysis tools and project tracking programs to solve engineering problems and facilitate work. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: 1. Degree: Engineering. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2)include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Professional knowledge of general engineering policies, theories, principles and concepts, and familiarity with other engineering disciplines to carry out conventional engineering assignments. 2. Ability to analyze, interpret and apply general engineering rules and procedures in a variety of situations and recommend effective solutions to senior engineers. 3. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. 4. Knowledge of computer operations and standard software applications. Education ARE YOU USING YOUR EDUCATION TO QUALIFY?
