CenterLight Health System DIRECTOR OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS in United States

JOB PURPOSE:

The Director of External Affairs will lead the organization's efforts in managing and enhancing its relationships with external stakeholders, including government agencies, community organizations, media, and the public. This role involves developing and executing strategies to advance the organization's public policy goals, enhance its reputation, and support its strategic objectives. The Director of External Affairs will work closely with the senior leadership team to ensure alignment with organizational goals and priorities.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive external affairs strategies to advance the organization's mission and objectives.

  • Identify and analyze legislative and regulatory issues that impact the organization and its stakeholders.

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with local, state, and federal government officials, regulatory agencies, and industry associations.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact between the organization and government entities.

  • Ensure compliance with all lobbying laws and regulations, including reporting and disclosure requirements.

  • Maintain accurate records of lobbying activities and expenditures.

  • Prepare and submit required lobbying reports to appropriate government agencies.

  • Advocate for the organization's positions on public policy issues, including preparing testimony, position papers, and policy briefs.

  • Provide regular updates to senior leadership on key legislative and regulatory issues.

  • Represent the organization in meetings with government officials, regulatory agencies, and industry associations.

  • Serve as the primary spokesperson for the organization on external affairs matters.

  • Work with the communications team to develop and disseminate advocacy materials, including press releases, newsletters, and social media content.

  • Coordinate media interviews, press conferences, and other public appearances for organizational leaders.

Management Standards

  • Policies and Procedures: (1) Create Policies and Procedures needed, (2) Monitor Compliance, (3) Ensure all employees are aware of the policies, (4) Review them annually, (5) Discuss and obtain final approval of new or revised policies with the P&P committee annually.

  • Conduct regular risk assessments to identify areas of potential non-compliance and vulnerability within the organization, developing strategies and controls to mitigate risks and strengthen compliance efforts.

  • Anticipate industry trends and implement best practices and process improvements to enhance operational effectiveness and streamline workflows.

  • Lead departmental in responding, including closing the loop on any potential Corrective Action Plan (CAPs), to internal and external audit inquiries (including CMS, NY DOH, and other government agencies) for all CenterLight legal entities, ensuring timely delivery of requested information.

  • Promote a high-performance and continuous improvement culture that values learning and a commitment to quality.

Schedule: 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Public Relations, or other related field, required. Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school in Healthcare Law, Administrative Law, Regulatory Law, Government Relations, or a related field, preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 4 - 6 years of experience in external affairs, government relations, public policy, or a related field, with at least 2 - 4 years in a leadership role.

  • Strong understanding of the healthcare industry, including key issues, trends, and regulatory environment.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.

  • Proven ability to develop and implement successful external affairs strategies.

  • Experience in media relations, including serving as a spokesperson and managing media inquiries.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex regulatory and legislative environments.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Proficiency in using social media and digital communication tools for external engagement.

Physical Requirements

Individuals must be able to sustain certain physical requirements essential to the job. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Standing – Duration of up to 6 hours a day.

  • Sitting/Stationary positions – Sedentary position in duration of up to 6-8 hours a day for consecutive hours/periods.

  • Lifting/Push/Pull—Up to 50 pounds of equipment, baggage, supplies, and the ability to lift patients safely and using OSHA guidelines, etc.

  • Bending/Squatting – Must be able to safely bend or squat to care for patients, use medical supplies, etc.

  • Stairs/Steps/Walking/Climbing – Must be able to safely maneuver stairs, climb up/down, and walk to access work areas Position requires the individual to be able to travel, and walk between sites/locations and work areas throughout the day.

  • Agility/Fine Motor Skills - Must demonstrate agility and fine motor skills to operate and activate equipment, devices, instruments, and tools (i.e., typing, use of medical supplies, equipment, etc.)

  • Sight/Visual Requirements – Must be able to visually assess patients, read orders, type/write documentation, etc., with accuracy.

  • Audio Hearing and Motor Skills (language) Requirements – Must be able to listen attentively, and document information from patients, community members, providers, etc., and intake information through audio processing with accuracy. In addition, must be able to speak comfortably and clearly with language motor skills for customers to understand the individual.

  • Cognitive Ability – Must be able to demonstrate good decision-making, reasonableness, cognitive ability, rational processing, and analysis to satisfy essential functions of the job.

Salary Range (Min-Max):$160,000.00 - $170,000.00
