Overview  

This position oversees the strategic direction and execution of the company’s advocacy communications efforts. This role focuses on leading a team of communications professionals to develop and implement advocacy strategies related to the company’s objectives . The role involves providing leadership and direction for regional and local advocacy communications strategies, ensuring alignment with broader corporate objectives , and fostering a favorable legislative and regulatory landscape. The Advocacy Communications Manager will work closely with senior leaders, internal Government Affairs teams, Business Unit Corporate Affairs leaders, Legal team members and external stakeholders to ensure meaningful messaging and advocacy campaigns that advance the company’s business and policy objectives .

As the Advocacy Communications Manager , you will :

  • Provide visionary leadership for the Advocacy Communications team, setting the overall strategy and ensuring that all communications efforts are aligned with the company’s broader public policy and business objectives .

  • Lead and mentor the Advocacy Communications team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment. Provide guidance on strategic priorities, resource allocation, and professional development.

  • Oversee the development of comprehensive advocacy communications strategies related to national, regional, state, and local policy landscapes. Ensure these strategies are integrated with broader Enterprise Communications, Corporate Affairs, and Government Affairs efforts.

  • Collaborate with senior leaders, including the Vice President of Enterprise Communications, Government Affairs teams, and Business Unit leaders, to ensure advocacy communications strategies are aligned with public policy priorities.

  • Serve as a key advisor to senior executives on advocacy communications, offering strategic insights and support in preparing for public engagements, responses to requests for information , and other critical interactions.

  • Work closely with internal teams across the company, including Government Affairs, Business Units, and Enterprise Communications, to ensure advocacy communications strategies support and enhance overall communications and business objectives .

  • Provide oversight and high-level guidance on key advocacy campaigns, ensuring they are effectively managed by the team and achieve desired outcomes.

  • Oversee relationships with external service agencies, ensuring they are effectively supporting the team’s strategic goals and delivering high-quality work.

  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) for advocacy communications efforts. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of strategies and campaigns, providing regular updates and insights to senior leadership.

  • Contribute to the overarching Enterprise Strategic Communications Plan by collaborating with other members of the Enterprise Communications Leadership Team to position the company as a thought leader in key public policy areas.

    Requirements

  • 10 + Years of experience in public policy communications, government affairs or related field with at least three years in a leadership role.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications , Public Relations, Political Science or related field

  • Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams, with a strong track record of managing complex, multi-faceted communications efforts .

  • Deep understanding of public policy, legislative, and regulatory processes, with the ability to craft long-term advocacy communications plans that align with corporate objectives .

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of influencing senior stakeholders and guiding team communications.

  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Strong expertise in overseeing complex projects, with an emphasis on cross-functional alignment and achieving strategic outcomes.

  • Skilled in building consensus and driving alignment across diverse teams and stakeholders, with a focus on achieving strategic public policy objectives .

  • Strong ability to work effectively with others across the organization, ensuring alignment and integration of strategic initiatives. Ability to influence public policy outcomes through strategic communications and stakeholder engagement.

  • Demonstrated ability to set and guide long-term strategies that shape the public policy environment in favor of the company’s objectives .

  • Proven ability to navigate and respond to changing political landscapes, with a proactive approach to emerging issues.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or specialized certification in Public Affairs or Public Policy .

  • Experience in a large corporation, public relations agency or government affairs setting.
