Summary This position is a Conservation Biologist, GS- 0401-13 working in a location to be determined.at the time of selection for the R3-ARD-Climate Change and Science Application. This temporary promotion is not-to-exceed 1 year. It may be extended (for a total appointment not-to-exceed five years), or made permanent, without further competition. Responsibilities As a Conservation Biologist your duties will include but are not limited to the following: Ensures activities are coordinated across geographic areas, other boundaries and programs; collaborates with partners and other stakeholders such as other Federal and state fish and wildlife agencies. Provides coordination support in progressively refining the scientific and technical underpinning of fish and wildlife conservation strategies for the assigned issue(s) or area. Collaborates and explores innovative means to leverage human and financial assets among agencies, organizations, and partnerships to implement the functional elements of the SHC framework in pursuit of a sustainable ecosystem. Serves as a liaison and provides a forum for private, state, and federal entities interested in a sustainable geography to exchange ideas, information, and technology; and to actively engage in leveraging and targeting their collective assets to achieve desired ecosystem conditions. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Only experience and education obtained by 07/09/2024 will be considered. In order to qualify for this position you must possess both the Basic Requirement and Minimum Qualification. Basic Requirement: Bachelor's or higher degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position; OR Combination of education and experience that includes courses equivalent to a major in the biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, PLUS appropriate experience or additional education. The quality of the combination of education and experience must be sufficient to demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform work in the occupation, and is comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a full 4-year course of study with a major in the appropriate field. Minimum Qualification [GS-13] One year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility equivalent to grade GS-12 in the Federal service. Experience may include 1) Represents FWS positions in collaboration with partners, and 2) supports coordination of science planning and implementation activities across a broad geography and diverse participants, including other FWS programs and others. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study. This position will also coordinate further refinement and implementation of the Native Seed Strategy across existing and developing efforts in the Midwest Region while also representing the region in national efforts. Duty Stations: The duty station for this position will be located in Region 3 which includes the States of Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Ohio. Outside of Region 3 includes Nebraska and Kansas. The salary will be based upon duty station and locality pay once selected.
