The New York University Silver School of Social Work (NYU Silver) invites all interested parties to applications for a Clinical Assistant Professor, beginning in September 2024. This position will focus on teaching across degree programs (BSW, MSW, DSW) and campuses (Washington Square, Westchester and Rockland).

NYU Silver is the home of The Zelda Foster Studies Program, which was established in 2006 by the School and the family and friends of Zelda Foster. The mission of the program is to develop and mentor social work students and MSWs in Palliative End of Life Care (PELC). Zelda Foster, an early PELC pioneer, developed and mentored many current leaders in PELC social work. The Zelda Foster Studies Program includes an MSW fellowship and a post-master’s certificate program.

To further our mission, deepen our scholarship base, and continue the work of the Zelda Foster Studies Program, we are looking to recruit candidates with expertise in and related to palliative care and end-of-life social work who also possess the training and experience required to teach direct practice courses and provide supervision to students and trainees. Part of this position includes assuming leadership of Silver’s Zelda Foster Studies Program in Palliative and End-of-Life Care and continuing to strengthen existing and build new philanthropic relationships. Candidates are required to have experience teaching in an MSW program; and experience teaching at the undergraduate level will also receive favorable consideration. Candidates must be qualified to advise and mentor MSW and DSW students, to support their academic and professional development.

This is a 9-month renewable non-tenure eligible position. The candidate will be a full-time faculty member and report to the Dean of the School of Social Work. As a full-time clinical faculty member, the candidate will teach and engage in school and university service and contribute to curricular development and practicum education.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for a Clinical Assistant Professor is $78,500 - $98,500 . NYU considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.

A doctoral degree, such as a PhD or DSW in social work or a related field is required, and at least five years post-master’s agency-based or academic experience are required. The candidate must be knowledgeable about a wide range of social service settings and serving diverse populations. Experience working in an academic environment is highly desirable.
