Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • People: Directly: Controller, Human Resources Director, Indirectly: WCI Executive Assistant

  • Data: Overall responsibility for Financial and Human Resources records, systems, and reports to management and official reports to government agencies, banks, insurance companies, and other recipients of official company financial information.

  • Things: Corporate funds; all company financial assets; company accounting files; equipment, software, and furnishings in office.

    Overall Responsibilities:

    1) Leadership. Work with the Controller and Human Resources (HR) Director to supervise and direct Corporate Services operations and reporting. Coordinate and direct the development of Corporate Services policies, procedures, and methods to ensure that the financial and other records are maintained in an accurate and useful form.

    2) Management. Hire, train, coach, develop, and appraise the performance and perform the salary reviews of the Controller and HR Director. Ensure that financial assets (cash, receivables and investments) and financial obligations are safeguarded and properly managed. Coordinate and oversee compliance with federal and state tax laws. Provide accurate and timely financial, forecasting, modeling, and analytical assistance in evaluating acquisitions and existing operations to WCI’s CEO/President and Board of Directors. Provide recommendations to Executive Division Leadership, division leaders, and other managers to improve profits through increased revenue, reduced expenses and more efficient use of resources. Provide strategic direction and management oversight of the Financial Services (FS) and Human Resources (HR) departments. Provide input and guidance to the Info Technology Adminstrative & Planning Team, as needed. Serve as a member of the WCI Health Care Plan Committee and 401(k) Plan Committee.

    3) Participatory Management (PM)/Great Game of Business (GGOB). By example and through empowerment, serve as a resource to others in implementing behavior related to the success of PM and GGOB, customer service, and other important aspects of WCI’s ESOP culture.

    4) SEC/ELT/Board. Serve as a member of the Executive Leadership Team and Strategic Executive Committee. Provide advice and counsel to the CEO & President, the Board of Directors and its committees (Audit Committee and Compensation, Governance & Development Committee) and other company officers regarding financial and operating matters.

    Specific Responsibilities:

    Leadership

  • Direct the development and implementation of WCI accounting and financial procedures and provide advice and counsel on Human Resources policies and procedures.

  • Ensure that the Financial Services and Human Resources departments maintain contacts in their respective industries and stay informed on developments in their fields of expertise.

  • Primary responsibility for strategic planning within Financial Services and oversight of strategic planning in the Human Resources department.

    Management

  • Coach, supervise and evaluate the performance of the Controller and HR Director to ensure achievement of approved strategic plans, objectives and action plans.

  • Work with the Controller and HR Director to help them develop their skills and expertise to achieve their career goals and enhance their personal growth.

  • Provide financial assistance in the analysis, negotiation, structuring, and transition of acquisitions and divestitures.

  • Serve as the primary contact with the external public accounting/tax, internal audit, valuation, ESOP trustee, and legal firms.

  • Develop and maintain good banking contacts and relationships so that WCI meets its operating cash needs and invests excess cash in a manner consistent with WCI’s Investment Policy.

  • Utilizing those same banking contacts and relationships, ensure that adequate loans may be obtained in a timely manner and at generally favorable rates.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with those providing services to the WCI Employee Stock Ownership Plan, including the valuation firm, trustee and third party administrator.

  • Oversee the analysis and management of risk and work with consultants and brokers to secure adequate business insurance coverage for identifiable risks to assets and operations.

  • Ensure that WCI’s capital structure is positioned to meet WCI’s strategic goals and objectives.

  • Oversee the annual budget process.

  • Maintain a working knowledge of US federal and state tax laws and their application to WCI.

  • Provide guidance to the Info Technology Administration & Planning Team by meeting during the annual budget process and focusing on risk management and being the liaison to the Executive Leadership Team.

  • Stay abreast of industry trends by attending conferences, webinars, and other educational opportunities.

  • Oversee and direct preparation and issuance of Corporate Annual Reports.

  • Complete and/or oversee the presentation of all financial information to WCI’s Board of Directors and Audit Committee.

  • Serve as a member of the WCI Health Care Plan Committee.

  • Serve as a member of the WCI 401(k) Plan Committee.

  • Serve as an ex-officio member of the WCI Compensation, Development & Governance Committee as it relates to ESOP matters.

    Participatory Management (PM)/Great Game of Business (GGOB)

  • Promote and maintain a management philosophy that supports and encourages the fulfillment of participative management within the Financial Services and Human Resources departments and with relationships with those outside the corporate services departments.

  • Promote and maintain a management philosophy that supports the Great Game of Business within the Financial Services and Human Resources departments.

    SEC/ELT

  • Work with SEC, ELT and other managers to maintain a cooperative, open, and participative working environment and monitor the FS and HR departments to ensure that the required service and support is provided.

  • Proactively serve as a financial advisor to all WCI business units.

Qualifications

Knowledge: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance with several computer related courses. MBA, CPA, CMA or similar advanced degree or the equivalent in experience or training. Three to five years experience with a national or regional public accounting firm (or equivalent) plus three to five years of financial leadership experience in a for-profit entity, with the above including eight years experience managing people and working with members of boards of directors and top management. Two years of experience analyzing and executing acquisitions and divestitures. Two years of experience working with employee-owned companies preferred
