WMATA¿s Communications and Signaling team is looking for several dynamic Train Control Engineers to work with the team responsible for designing, implementing, testing and commissioning, and maintaining Automatic Train Control (ATC) components and systems. The ideal candidate will have a proven record of executing projects efficiently, identifying issues and solutions, and demonstrated proficiency in stakeholder engagement. He/she/they will also maintain current working knowledge on the latest technology and provide technical expertise to internal and external departments. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Bachelor¿s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with emphasis in electronics and system design and evaluation
In lieu of a Bachelor¿s Degree, a High School Diploma/GED, post high school electronic education, and four (4) years of relevant electronics experience, in addition to the experience stated below, will be considered
Experience
- Minimum four (4), years of systems design, administration or maintenance project experience in relevant disciplines such as electronics, Information Technology, signaling, or controls systems
Certification/Licensure
WMATA Roadway Worker Protection Certification at Level 2 is required within 6 months of hire and maintained
Valid drivers¿ license and ability to drive a WMATA non-revenue vehicle

SUMMARY
The Automatic Train Control Engineer conducts, designs and reviews activities and oversees the installation of software and hardware required to maintain, modify and upgrade WMATA¿s signaling systems. The incumbent supports WMATA¿s Automatic Train Control Maintenance Department by performing failure analysis and identifying issues and solutions compliant with system and revenue operations requirements. The incumbent provides technical expertise to WMATA engineering design managers, construction implementation teams, procurement and contract administration teams and senior management within their department. This job plays a key role in developing processes, evaluating products and, performing acceptance testing, and commissioning activities. The incumbent maintains and continuously acquires familiarity with the evolving technology, signaling systems and design.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Oversees studies; conducts investigations and evaluations; and prepares design modifications for WMATA¿s Automatic Train Control (ATC) system. Oversees and drafts temporary configuration plans to accommodate revenue operations during construction implementation activities or product prototyping/testing.
Drafts design modifications for review and approval by the ATC design control board and presents recommendations as required.
Conducts investigations and technical studies, and drafts reports, and recommendations related to automatic train control systems and subsystems requirements.
Performs and coordinates reviews and technical evaluations of proposals, estimates, specifications, and designs for compliance and operational requirements and prepares appropriate documentation of findings.
Prepares estimates and supports preparation of statements of work relating to signaling systems acquisitions. Translates and reviews WMATA and system policies and operational requirements. May draft drawings and update specifications.
Maintains a working knowledge of current and new, state-of-the-art technology; provides technical expertise to engineering managers and may attend and participate in meetings with WMATA departments, manufacturers, and designers.
Collaborates with WMATA¿s operational departments and may be a point of contact or liaison to ensure close communication between design teams, maintenance teams, and operations.
For assigned projects, administers, and manages documentation control in strict compliance with department¿s standard procedures.
Coordinate¿s system engineering requirements in terms of human factors, manufacturing, and maintenance
