GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Shoshone District is recruiting for a seasonal park maintenance assistant for the summer of 2024. The position will be primarily located in Fremont County (Sinks Canyon State Park and South Pass City State Historic Site) but may be asked to serve at other locations throughout the Shoshone District, including, but not limited to, Fort Bridger State Historic Site, Bear River State Park, and Seminoe State Park.

The employment season is from May 1 to October 15. 40 hours a week. Some seasonal positions may begin earlier in the year and/or extend longer into the fall. Please refer to the Essential Functions for more detailed information about job duties.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level.

  • Perform routine building, grounds, and landscape maintenance, minor carpentry repairs, painting, and mowing.

  • Assist staff in the construction, installation, maintenance, renovation of grounds and buildings, and preventive maintenance.

  • Clean and service restrooms, shelters, and buildings, and remove litter from grounds, parking lots, and other public areas.

  • Operate and/or drive a variety of vehicles, including light, and heavy equipment.

  • Operate various maintenance equipment, such as mowers, weed eaters, leaf blowers, hedge trimmers, chainsaws, and other equipment required in daily operations.

  • Utilize various hand and power tools.

  • Follow proper handling and safety procedures involving cleaning chemicals and fuel products encountered in daily operations, including proper Personal Protective Equipment usage.

  • Provide excellent customer service. May interact with the visiting public answering basic questions.

  • Greet visitors, collect admission fees, and provide excellent customer service.

  • Handle monetary transactions, which include fee collection and gift shop sales.

  • Assist all Shoshone District sites with special projects and events.

Qualifications

PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:

For all seasonal positions, preference will be given to applicants who are professional while providing excellent customer service.

**Must have a valid driver's license.

**Must be at least 16 years of age.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Detail-oriented, accurate, and thorough in completing assignments/tasks.

  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with visitors from around the world.

  • Willingness to work on a variety of assignments every day.

  • Must possess excellent customer service skills.

  • Ability to manage and complete multiple projects with variable timelines and scopes of work.

  • Basic operational knowledge of light equipment use, hand tools, and power tools.

  • Basic safety awareness of equipment use.

Necessary Special Requirements

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Must work outdoors in all weather conditions.

  • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds, with or without assistance.

  • Must travel to other sites in the Shoshone District.
