Job Description

Responsible for providing leadership and administrative direction that complements and supports the mission of the university and enriches the quality of student life. Provide leadership for development, operation and coordination of all Student Life areas which include Residence Life, Student Activities, University Camps and Programs for Minors and Special Services (including Mental Health Counseling, Disability Services, Medical Services and Ombudsmen Services).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversee the planning, coordinating, developing, and execution of university policies, procedures and practices related to the comprehensive scope of the Student and Residence Life programs.
Supervises staff and directs staff training and orientation. Meets with department staff, and division head on a regular basis reporting on all areas assigned responsibility.
Develop, implement, and manage Student Life department budget(s) including student fee budgets; Ensures monthly reconciliation of all budgets.
Effectively manages performance, including performance improvement and enhances employee professional development. Provides cross training within the student life department to promote the uninterrupted delivery of effective and efficient student services.
Serve as the administrator for University Camps and Programs for Minors.
Serve as the Ombudsman (the advocate for students), representing their needs to the University.
May serve as the Title IX Deputy Coordinator
Develop, update, evaluate, and maintain an active student life divisional/unit plan that aligns to the strategic plan and provides continuous quality improvement.
Establish and maintain procedures for documenting and implementing ADA compliance for students; Coordinate ADA accommodations for students and acts as a liaison between students and faculty to ensure reasonable accommodations are made.
Serve as Chair of Behavioral Intervention Team.
Establish and maintain positive rapport with the community, alumni, civic/professional organizations, local business & industry, public school systems, and other potential employers for the purpose of promoting the institution.
Monitor relevant publications to ensure the accuracy and appropriateness of published information.
Contribute to the effective team management of all relevant problems, issues, and opportunities.
Know and comply with all system and university policies, regulations, rules, procedures, guidelines, and directives in a timely manner.
Complete other job-related assignments, as directed by the Vice President for Student Enrollment, Engagement, and Success.
Serve as Chief Judicial Officer; supervise the implementation of all student disciplinary actions. Represent A&M-Texarkana as Senior Student Affairs Officer at Texas A&M University System.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in higher education, student development, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Five (5) or more years of progressively responsible experience in Student Life/Student Affairs administration at the university level
Strong supervisory, budgeting and reporting skills
Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications
Ability to multitask diverse projects
Working knowledge of student development theory and current legal issues in higher education
Ability to work cooperatively with others
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
Must be able to maintain confidentiality
Preferred Qualifications
Doctorate in higher education, student life/affairs, juris doctor or related field
Five (5) or more years’ experience managing full-time professional employees
Ten (10) years related experience
Experience administering Camps and Programs for Minors, Residence Life, Recreational Sports and/or other Student Life/Affairs activities
Successful experience in communicating individually and with groups of people of varying age levels and career positions.
Demonstrated ability to make sound judgments, exercise good decision-making and formulate creative ideas
Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
Knowledge of higher education Title IX/Civil Rights policies and procedures
Experience working with traditional and non-traditional students in a college or university setting
Record of successful community involvement and partnership
Bilingual (English/Spanish)
