Job Description
The Division of Humanities at Texas A&M University-Texarkana invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of English to join our faculty beginning in the 2025-2026 academic year.
Texas A&M University – Texarkana, a member of the Texas A&M University System, is a dynamic and growing regional comprehensive university serving over 2,000 students. Since its founding in 1971 as East Texas State University, A&M-Texarkana has been known for its emphasis on student-centered, experiential education. Expanding in 2010 from upper-division undergraduate and master’s programs to lower-division undergraduate and doctoral offerings, the campus has maintained its friendly atmosphere, small class sizes, and commitment to traditional and non-traditional students. A comprehensive student life program ensures a full collegiate experience for residential students, and an annual thematic community engagement program offers educational enrichment for the campus and wider community.
Our undergraduate English curriculum includes two degree-granting programs (a B.A. in English and a B.S. in English) as well as two teacher preparation degrees (English, Language Arts, and Reading grades 4-8 and grades 7-12). Our M.A. in English includes a literature concentration and rhetoric/composition concentration.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a willingness and ability to teach across a range of courses in composition and writing, particularly our courses in the first-year writing sequence, contribute to course and program design; provide service to the program, department, and University; and engage in scholarship that complements existing faculty. The full-time course load is 4/4.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Possess a terminal degree in English; Writing Studies; Rhetoric & Composition; Technical Writing, or English Education (Ph.D. must be in-hand by time of appointment).
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in English degree programs and core curriculum.
Advise English majors in the department.
Work collaboratively with faculty in program development and across disciplines.
Experience using Canvas or similar LMS.
Contribute to curriculum and course development.
Ability to play an integral role in the Humanities Division at Texas A&M University-Texarkana.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Minimum Qualifications
- Earned doctorate in English; Writing Studies; Rhetoric & Composition; Technical Writing, or English Education (Ph.D. must be in-hand by time of appointment)
Preferred Qualifications
Experience teaching courses in developmental writing, first-year composition, English education, and/or technical writing
At least two years of teaching writing in a higher education setting (graduate teaching as sole instructor-of-record and adjunct teaching experience are acceptable)
Demonstrated evidence of ability to teach across a range of modalities (face to face, asynchronous online, hybrid, synchronous online)
Experience teaching and advising first-generation students
