Description

As the Assistant Manager of Rail Equipment Maintenance, you will manage all operational activities of the Rail Equipment Maintenance department including maintenance, repair and overhaul of light rail vehicles. This role will also be responsible for employee and labor relations, performance management, and monitoring of resource allocation and productivity. Ensure a commitment to safety through effective leadership, role modeling and implementing practices that demonstrate safety is a fundamental value and a priority in all aspects of work. Perform related duties as required. Supervise staff responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair, installation, servicing and alteration of TriMet's rail equipment. Prepare and initiate routine reports of work accomplished and time and materials expended.

This position requires being onsite five (5) days per week.

Serve as a good steward of TriMet by regularly utilizing our transit system to maintain a strong and current understanding of customers’ experiences and of TriMet’s product and service offerings.

Essential Functions

  • Supervise work assignments of Rail Maintenance employees on a daily basis. Efficiently allocate labor hours and materials to assure LRV's are cleaned, disinfected and that all LRV's meet or exceed the District's expectation.

  • Responsible for proactively implementing new techniques and improvements to identify problems and find solutions that improve work performance and environment. Coordinate productivity improvement processes by encouraging employee creativity and involvement to find short and long term efficiencies.

  • Prepare and implement work schedules, programs and procedures. Prepare routine and special reports of work accomplished and time and materials expended.

  • Implement, maintain and manage preventative maintenance programs. Monitor maintenance activities to ensure compliance with program goals and ensure production standards are attained. Keep manager informed of work progress or problems.

  • Manage vendor contracts.

  • Responsible for understanding, complying with, and enforcing all agency's rules and procedures to ensure a safe environment for employees and customers.

  • Set and implement clear, realistic and quantifiable team and individual objectives and goals.

  • Responsible for understanding and applying Agency policies, procedures and Working and Wage Agreement.

Position Requirements

A minimum of a High School Diploma or G.E.D. is required. A Bachelor's Degree in Business, Engineering, Transportation Management or a related discipline is preferred.

Four (4) years of total credited experience.*

Three (3) years of electro/mechanical maintenance experience are required.

Three (3) years of experience in combined union and non-union organization are preferred.

One (1) year of electro/mechanical maintenance experience in a lead or supervisory capacity is required. A management role in transportation, equipment maintenance, rail transit operation or project management at a large public or private organization is required.

Or any equivalent combination of experience and training.

*The amount of credit a candidate receives for prior years of experience is based on the relevancy of that experience to the required or preferred prerequisites of the job description. Experience is prorated based on hours worked. LRHR assigns and validates the "credited experience".

Salary Range

Minimum: $99,064.00

Maximum: $148,597.00

Salary offers will be determined by a candidate’s education, training and relevant experience. Any final offer of employment will fall within the range stated above. For transparency, we choose to list the full available grade range, however, TriMet’s salary administration process will ultimately determine the final salary offered.
