  • Engineering and Science * ASSET02058 Full-Time Remote, , USA ### Description Apogee is seeking a Software Application, Subject Matter Expert (SME)to be located remotelyor in Omaha, NEto support of the 557th Weather Wing (557WW).This position will support the Numerical Weather Model (NWM) Lead Engineer by overseeing the scientific and technical aspects of multiple Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) projects and completing technical evaluations as needed. What you will be doing: * Function as a 557WW recognized expert for this specific knowledge area and apply this expertise to the Division’s vision and strategic direction * Performs occasional hands-on support to Numerical Weather Model (NWM) modeling tasks such as investigating documented deficiencies related to AF numerical modeling and assisting with GALWEM performance benchmark development * Interfaces and collaborates with other advanced degree meteorologists in partner institutions such as UKMO, NCAR, NASA, NGA, and ERDC * Understand, articulate, and implement best practices related to this area of expertise * Lead or be an active participant of a workgroup with the need for specialized knowledge * Provide guidance on how his/her area of capability can resolve an organizational need and actively participate in all phases of the software development life cycle * Be responsible for defining business requirements and recommending a technical approach to meet the needs of a specific system or software application * Generate design specifications for software development to include translating business requirements into detailed algorithms for coding * Assist the Government in overseeing the development, testing and implementation of the technical solution and validate that the final product satisfies the defined requirements * Review technical documentation such as user guides, training manuals, and system specifications, prior to distribution to end-users and ensure his/her subject area is accurately represented What you will need to have: * Current Top Secret (TS) security clearance with Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) eligibility * One of the following education/experience combinations: * Advanced Degree (MA/MS) in Meteorology and at least 12 years of relevant experience, including at least 5 years supporting the DoD * 20 years of relevant experience, including at least 8 years supporting the DoD * Experience in Meteorology and Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) * Experience with UK Met Office (UKMO) Unified Model preferred * Subject matter expertise in Information Technology (IT) or software applications Benefits: * Apogee offers two medical plans, a high deductible health plan with a HRA and a traditional POS plan with co-pays, dental, vision, 401(k), life insurance, PTO, paid holidays, parental, military and jury duty paid leaves. * This position is eligible for a discretionary annual bonus.
