Description

SUMMARY: Performs responsible evaluation, screening and supervision to Court ordered offenders who have been ordered into Old Dominion Alcohol Safety Action Program (ASAP). Understands, comprehends and adheres to standard operating procedures, Commission on Virginia Alcohol Safety Action Program (VASAP), Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center (NRADC) procedures and Frederick County polices.

· Performs intake assessment to determine past/present abuse of alcohol and/or drugs.

· Assigns classified method of treatment.

· Administers alcohol and drug screening tests.

· Follows progress of treatment and/or education participation.

· Monitors Ignition Interlock participation.

· Prepares reports and maintains files on clients.

· Records vital statistical and case information pertaining to client’s participation.

· Coordinates cases with the courts, service providers, instructors, attorneys, and other relevant agencies.

· Prepares a variety of court reports, appears, and testifies in court in regard to the offender’s progress.

Assists with program development and public information and education.

Typical Qualifications

EDUCATION: Possesses associate’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course emphasis in criminology, criminal justice, corrections, sociology or related or relevant experience in the field. A bachelor’s degree is preferred. ASAP Case Manager must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.

EXPERIENCE: Four (4) years of experience to produce the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to properly assess and monitor court ordered referrals.

OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers. Able to effectively manage time and priorities, handle stressful situations, and provide exemplary client services while also being able to deescalate emotionally charged individuals, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service. Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices. Possess excellent computer proficiency – especially in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Supplemental Information

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Requires light physical effort working almost exclusively with lightweight materials (up to 20 pounds) including but not limited to walking, talking, stooping, sitting (for extended periods), kneeling, bending, reaching and gripping. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, and visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of machines, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities. Office work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g., business office, light traffic). Travel is required for training within Virginia and to satellite offices, courts, jails and other required locations.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Heated and air-conditioned office. The worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions. This position is an office and jail environment with the inherent dangers associated with working within the criminal justice setting.
