Oversees the management of designated Portfolio Managers within an assigned region and works with the Regional Commercial Banking Executive to ensure that MidWestOne’s underwriting and portfolio administration requirements are documented and maintained. Will assist with on-the-job portfolio management training and support efforts in the states/regions in which they work. Will also collaborate with commercial management on change implementation and the writing of procedures related to the portfolio management functions. Responsible for the ongoing management of relationships to assist the assigned Banker(s) in realizing efficiencies, quality of the process and product, retention, and expansion of banking relationships consistent with the Region’s goals and objectives for growth, credit quality, and rates of return. In collaboration and support of assigned Banker(s), this position is responsible for collecting, examining, and evaluating information with recommendations to the respective Banker(s) as to the general creditworthiness and merits of credit requests from existing and prospective customers. Works with and through others in the organization to accomplish these responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Leads, manages, and provides guidance for the Portfolio Managers in assigned region.

  • Assists with providing on-the-job training of newly hired Portfolio Managers and produces learning plans, curriculum, and resource guides.

  • Identifies missing resources and changes that impact processes and provides input or recommendations for procedures to Regional Commercial Banking Executive for approval.

  • Performs collection and analysis of financial data deemed necessary to determine the general creditworthiness and merits of credit requests. This includes, but not be limited to reviewing financial statements, tax returns, cash flow and projection analysis, risk rating, and analysis and review of personal financial statements and other applications that are presented.

  • Oversees and performs ongoing credit monitoring to include completing credit reviews as needed (typically annually) along with reviewing upcoming loan maturities, borrowing base certificates, trend identification in credit quality/risk rating, compliance with loan covenants, etc.

  • Prepares comprehensive written analysis, compiling written industry summaries and analysis, recommending structure, collecting financial statements, collecting other information as needed to determine the general creditworthiness and merits of a credit request.

  • Coordinates collateral inspections, on site visits, reviews, evaluations, and appraisals for upcoming loan maturities, credit reviews, and new requests in accordance with internal policies and procedures.

  • Requests loan packages according to internal policies and procedures and review for accuracy, completeness, and thoroughnessprior to closingto ensure all applicable documentation requirements are met for loans within their respective region.

  • Assures timely loan closing and funding activities.

  • Services customers and potential customers by proactively promoting the Bank to enhance commercial/ag banking relationships by identifying and recommending banking products and services to the assigned Banker as appropriate to meet customer needs.

  • Works on other designated credits or special projects as assigned by Regional Commercial Banking Executive.

  • May participate and make presentations of credit requests needing action to Metro Loan Committee, Executive Loan Committee, and/or Loan Strategy as directed by the assigned Banker(s).

  • Participates in joint calls with customers and potential customers with the assigned Banker(s) to promote the Bank while further enhancing and soliciting additional banking relationships.

  • May participate in the planning process for the region’s Commercial/Ag Banking Department.

  • Participates in community and business functions/groups consistent with our Bank’s Brand Promise, Mission Statement, and Operating Principles.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of post high school education plus 3-5 years of portfolio manager work experience.

  • In addition to education, prefer 3-5 years of experience in a senior portfolio manager or team lead role in Commercial Banking.

  • Banking or financial experience is required.
