Shell Project Planning Engineer in Malaysia

This role is for a two-year fixed term contract.

As a Project Planning Engineer, you will support the delivery and maintenance of standard, consistent, and realistic project plans/schedules reflecting the assessed risk parameters for Projects / Assets.

You will ensure competitive schedule deliveries via the latest benchmarking internally within Shell and externally through IPA, Performance Forum, Woodmac, and other benchmarking tools and forums.

Purpose:

1) To contribute to delivery and maintenance standard, consistent and realistic project plans / schedules reflecting the assessed risk parameters for Projects / Assets.

2) To ensure competitive schedule deliveries via latest benchmarking internally within Shell and

externally through IPA, Performance Forum, Woodmac and other benchmarking tools and forums.

Accountabilities:

1) Deliver and maintain consistent and realistic plans and control structures for the project. Understand the list of plans required to execute the assigned project sub-elements and their interface to other sub-elements. Develop the activities, logic, resources and progress for the assigned project sub-elements, leading to the creation of the baseline schedule and its subsequent maintenance.

2) Develop, implement and comply with the planning and progress monitoring procedures.

3) Conduct the schedule monthly progress update, forecast, critical path and trend analyses for

assigned elements, including any impact from interface areas. Implement and maintain the status reports. Provide regular and comprehensive schedule status reports to Project sub-element managers.

4) Assess and incorporate the impact of approved changes and any deviations from the key project targets and milestones, including productivity monitoring and identification of alternate approaches to optimise the plan(s).

5) Liaise with and challenge Project Engineering personnel to ensure proper understanding of the

key schedule sensitivities and drivers.

6) Develop contract key dates, milestones and plan dates that align with the overall project schedule. Participate in evaluating bid schedules and reviewing contractor plans to support contract award recommendations. Develop contract sections for planning and progress reporting. Review and

verify contractors reported progress and ensure that this is reflected in the project schedule.

7) Contribute to the translation of the project’s risk profile into the probabilistic risk model and understand the output, including the key risk drivers for the possible range of schedule completion dates. Track the criticality of the main paths to completion and float consumption.

8) Implement and utilise the Shell standard tools and processes.

9) Prepared and provide input data for benchmarking activities (e.g. IPA), including comparing with historical performance, industry norms and established KPIs.

10) Contribute to close-out data to enable knowledge retention (lessons learned, project data

compilation) at completion of work.

11) Proactive demonstration of continuous improvement.

Special Challenges:

1) Short turnaround of deliverables due to multiple projects timeline.

2) Applicant must be flexible and mobile to travel to support business needs as and when required.

3) Applicant must strive to make a positive impact to the business and can show this. Main missions

are to provide support of competitive, affordable opportunities and project delivery.

4) There is a wide range of projects, both onshore and offshore, spanning across both Front End and Execute phases, and being executed concurrently.

5) Able to contribute to continuous improvement in Planning discipline, for example, project data collection and analysis.

6) Maintain and promote realism in the planning deliverables in the face of commercial pressure and optimism from project teams.

7) Manage lack of definition in project scope, organisation and execution strategy in the early phases.

8) Maintain consistency in schedule bases through appropriate benchmark checks against past projects.

Skills:

1) Core competencies - possess strong understanding of planning engineering concepts.

2) Work Management Tools - possess strong understanding in the use of the tools Primavera P6,

Acumen Fuse, and Primavera Risk Analysis.

3) Possess strong analytical skills and communication/writings skills to deliver and highlight project reporting/issues, liaising with contractors and construction team members during various meetings and engagements.

4) Strong knowledge of the overall project process and steps e.g. ORP, Governance and Assurance, execution strategy.

5) Project front end and execution practical experience in deepwater, shallow water and onshore projects.

What we need from you

1) Engineering Degree and/or Certification as a Planning Engineer or equivalent experience.

2) Minimum of 8 years' industry experience in planning positions for onshore and offshore projects.

3) Good written and oral communications.

4) Fully versed with Planning principles and techniques, and Planning Software - Primavera P6.
