AIG Fraud Investigator in Hong Kong

About the Team

The “Special Investigations Unit” (SIU) is a global business division of AIG. The objective of the SIU is to reduce the potential economic loss to AIG through the identification and investigation of suspicious insurance claims or suspicious insurance related activities covering all lines of business.

Supported by GIS Operations and Intelligence teams, SIU Investigators work across multiple lines of business, carrying out enquiries into matters that have been identified as displaying suspicious activity.

About the role

The Fraud Investigator role forms part of the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) and will be responsible for handling all aspects of the investigation process on suspicious claims. This includes the creation of investigation plans, identification and assignment of relevant enquiries and reporting on findings. The investigator will regularly engage with key business stakeholders to share knowledge and expertise to mitigate the fraud risk to AIG Hong Kong.

The position reports to the Hong Kong SIU Fraud Manager and will be based in Hong Kong.

What you need to know

  • Investigate suspicious insurance claims or suspicious insurance-related activities covering all lines of business. This includes managing all aspects of the investigation, including analysing facts on issues in question and a thorough review of interviews and statements of relevant witnesses.

  • Obtaining and preserving physical and documentary evidence to support investigations.

  • Coordinating necessary investigative techniques and resources, such as fieldwork through internal or external field resources, cognitive interviews, etc., and ensuring quality is accurate, timely, and appropriate in all cases.

  • Producing reports based on evidential findings, providing adjusters with the information required to progress the claim as appropriate.

  • Handling caseload across relevant jurisdictions while ensuring all tasks are completed properly.

  • Testifying and presenting evidence at administrative and criminal court proceedings as required.

  • Establishing and maintaining professional working relationships with insureds, claimants, witnesses, lawyers, corporate employees, police, and relevant fraud bodies.

  • Assisting your Manager on the delivery of the International Fraud Strategy relating to SIU process improvement initiatives that target prevention and detection of suspicious claims.

What we’re looking for:

  • Bachelor’s Degree/ equivalent required.

  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) – Cantonese and English is a must, Mandarin an advantage.

  • Must have minimum 5 years of experience in insurance or fraud investigations. Experience in multiple lines of business is a plus.

  • Thorough understanding of insurance fraud trends and key fraud indicators.

  • Ability to contribute and collaborate effectively within a team environment and with internal/external stakeholders at all levels.

  • Awareness of, and adherence to, local laws regarding techniques used for information gathering

  • PC skills and experience with various investigation technologies, and systems (e.g. database searches, claims systems, case management systems).

  • Continuous improvement mindset and change adaptability. Motivated to pursue positive change and work with employees in facilitating recommended changes.

  • Ability to multi-task and organized at weighing and managing priorities.

  • Strong work habits focusing on safety, quality, productivity, risk/ compliance, customer focus.
