Manulife Director, Asia Operational Risk Management in Hong Kong

The Opportunity

Reporting to AVP, Operational Risk Management (ORM), Asia, this position will support the Asia Risk Management department on various key regional operational risk programs and promoting a risk aware culture and increasing risk awareness through educational initiatives.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Influence and collaborate with business and functional leaders to ensure effective implementation of various key ORM programs such as dynamic RCSA and embedding operational resilience framework.

  • Support business units to identify critical business services, setting of impact tolerances, mapping of underlying assets including interconnections and interdependencies, facilitating severe but plausible scenario testing and vulnerability management of the critical business operations

  • Maintain effective risk governance and management for overseeing operational risk activities within the Segment

  • Work closely with the country Chief Risk Officers, Compliance and Information Risk to understand existing risk and compliance processes to determine the approach to adapt global and regional program requirements in the Segment

  • Manage the overall planning and implementation of the ORM program and priorities rollout. Conduct training, facilitate workshops and coordinate reporting for the Segment. Ensure consistent quality of the identified risks and controls, as well as the effective challenge provided by country teams

  • Offer innovative ideas and help increase the efficiency of business processes and risk management activities

  • Assist sharing of key learnings, including incidents/ issues learning, risk management/ control best practices across Asia

Required Qualifications:

  • Risk management or audit background with 10+ years of experience in matters of increasing complexity

  • Good working knowledge of enterprise and operational risk management frameworks and processes

  • Hands-on experience in implementing operational resilience programs at other financial institutions

  • In depth understanding of operational procedures at financial institution (preferably insurance)

  • Experience in designing, implementing, and validating the effectiveness of operational controls

  • Highly developed business acumen, and pragmatic approach to solving problems and implementing solutions and a willingness to challenge the status quo

  • Exceptional communication skills, comfortable in providing presentations and conducting facilitation sessions to different audience groups. Ability to articulate complex issues to a diverse audience

  • High proficiency in visualization and presentation of concepts and insights to enable key decisions

  • Strong influencing skills, creative problem solving and ability to drive significant change in a fast-paced, constantly evolving environment

  • Strong stakeholder and relationship building skills to maintain effective working relationships with business units, various Regional functions, Group office and external parties. Comfortable working with all levels of management

  • Leadership required to influence and guide local teams to achieve deadlines and to overcome/resolve unforeseen challenges

  • Maintain a strong sense of compliance, control, and risk awareness

  • Comfortable with occasional international business travel
