Job Description:

Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Manager – Environmental & Sustainability to join our Aviation team in Europe! In this role you will get to provide leadership and direction for every phase of significant rail and transit projects or programs to assure on-schedule completion within or below budget and in accordance with contractual obligations. The Manager will develop in-depth knowledge of client objectives, contract terms, and corporate policies.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Lead the development and implementation of environmental policies, procedures, and programs that promote sustainability within the airport city construction program.

  • Monitor compliance with environmental regulations related to air quality standards, water quality standards, hazardous waste management regulations, etc.

  • Conduct environmental audits to identify areas of improvement in waste reduction, energy efficiency, water conservation, noise reduction etc.

  • Develop strategies to reduce the construction carbon footprint by promoting renewable energy sources and reducing greenhouse gas emissions from vehicles and aircrafts as well as ground support equipment.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including to develop sustainability initiatives that align with business goals.

  • Educate employees on sustainable practices through training programs and communication campaigns.

  • Analyze data related to energy consumption, waste generation from terminal buildings, water usage, environmentally friendly techniques, reusable building material, etc., and to identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Work with suppliers and vendors to ensure they meet the sustainability requirements.

  • Stay up to date on new developments in environmental regulations specific to airports and best practices in sustainability management for airports.

  • Manage a team of Environmental & Sustainability professionals.

  • Guide project teams during planning, design development, tendering and construction supervision to enable achievement of projects sustainability and environmental goals. 

  • Support the implementation of different sustainability rating systems such as LEED.

  • Work closely with project owners, developers, design teams and project managers to achieve sustainability objectives in the design and planning process. 

  • Assist in starting up major programs and developing sustainability strategies tailored for each project’s aspirations and requirements. 

  • Develop technical reports and studies for sustainability certification and environmental documentation as part of project deliverables. 

  • Works with the key project staff, consultants, contractors, and subcontractors to devise and execute action plans to rectify potential cost overruns or delays, or to accommodate significant changes to the scope of work.

  • Completes other responsibilities associated with the position as may be appropriate.

What Required Skills You'll Bring:

  • Master’s degree in environmental science, sustainability management or related field

  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in environmental management or sustainability preferably in Transportation industry (Airport and/or Rail)

  • Strong knowledge of environmental regulations specific to airports (local/state/federal)

  • Strong knowledge of sustainability initiatives worldwide

  • Excellent project management skills

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and stakeholders.

  • Passion for sustainability and protecting the environment.

  • Documented participation in the preparation of a third-party sustainability certification application (e.g., LEED), including at least two (2) completed, certified projects

What Desired Skills You'll Bring:

  • Effective oral and written skills for client presentations, technical reporting, and internal / external correspondence; ability to effectively present information to key stakeholders as required by the client

  • Understanding of the construction management at risk alternative delivery process and the functions inherent to construction management of large-scaled projects

  • Understanding of budget development and cost accounting

  • Ability to manage and encourage a team of design and construction management professionals.

  • Ability to interface with all levels with project team, client, and others.

  • Knowledge of construction contract negotiation and administration

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex documents.

  • Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.

  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of support function problems.

  • Ability to function in a multi-organizational environment by developing relationships that comply with the client’s proactive, collaborative culture.
