Position Summary
The Antarctic Terminal Operations (ATO) Shift Supervisor plays a critical leadership role in overseeing cargo operations, airfield activities, and load planning, directly managing 32 staff, including Cargo Personnel, Airfield Shift Supervisors, and Load Planners. This role also provides ancillary oversight to Passenger Services, Cargo Coordinator, and Shuttle Operations staff, ensuring the seamless coordination of personnel and resources.
The position requires a high level of multitasking ability, as the supervisor must manage simultaneous operations while navigating constant distractions and adapting to dynamic flight schedule changes. The ATO Shift Supervisor must pivot operations quickly and efficiently to align with evolving priorities and circumstances. Additionally, this role serves as the primary point of contact (POC) for all tasking assistance requests from other departments, ensuring timely and effective support for cross-functional needs.
Position Responsibilities
Lead and manage cargo operations, airfield activities, and load planning while overseeing 32 direct staff.
Provide guidance and ancillary support to Passenger Services, Cargo Coordinator, and Shuttle Operations staff.
Act as the ATO POC for tasking assistance requests from other departments.
Support Amentum’s SafeUp® Program and related safety initiatives.
Act as a liaison with various Antarctica Support Contract (ASC) work centers, agencies, and Antarctica New Zealand (AntNZ) personnel to ensure accurate, efficient cargo and passenger operations during day and night shifts.
Coordinate transportation assets, personnel, and equipment for effective Antarctic Terminal Operations across multiple airfields.
Oversee operations at the Movement Control Center (MCC) cargo yards, cargo bay, airfields, and equipment.
Conduct employee performance evaluations during and at the end of the season.
Train Load Planners and oversee training for other cargo personnel.
Ensure quality assurance of aircraft pallets, including hazardous material segregation, proper restraint, load plans, and documentation.
Implement and update standard operating procedures as needed.
Collaborate with USAP Cargo staff , Cargo Coordinators , Fixed Wing personnel , and grantees to prioritize outgoing flight cargo.
Manage cargo and passenger priorities for each flight, ensuring compliance with established guidelines.
Address and resolve cargo and passenger-related discrepancies and aircraft loading issues.
Assist with safety, accident, or incident reports as required.
Interact professionally with NSF, military personnel, and other agencies.
Lead daily and weekly safety meetings, maintaining attendance and subject matter records.
Foster a safe work environment by adhering to and promoting workplace safety programs.
Perform additional duties as required.
Required Education, Experience, Certificates, and Licenses
Education : Bachelor’s Degree in aviation/transportation or a related field. Four years of relevant experience may substitute for a degree.
Experience : At least two years in aviation/transportation, including staff management, scheduling, and data/resource tracking.
Certification : Airlift Mobility Command (AMC) Load Planner Certification (training provided if not currently certified).
Supervisory Experience : Minimum of two years.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience in remote site logistics, preferably with the US Antarctic Program (USAP) .
Familiarity with passenger and cargo movement functions, aircraft types and configurations, load plans, and automated systems (e.g., MAXIMO, ICODES).
Physical and Other Requirements
Willingness to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods.
Successful completion of NSF-mandated medical and dental examinations .
Pass employer-required drug screening and background check .
Pass NSF-required Federal Background Check .
Ability to lift and move items up to the maximum safety regulation weight.
Perform physically demanding tasks in extreme cold conditions.
Participate in community programs, including cleaning, recycling, and safety efforts.
Hold a valid U.S. Driver’s License .
Maintain facility credentials/authorization (U.S. Citizenship required).
