Parsons Corporation Sustainability Director (Drainage Systems/Tunnels) in United Arab Emirates

Job Description:

Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Sustainability Director to join our team! In this role you will get to provide sustainability leadership and direction for every phase of an upcoming large infrastructure program, consisting of multiple drainage system and tunneling projects.

The Sustainability Director will develop in-depth knowledge of client objectives, contract terms, and corporate policies. This role is a pinnacle opportunity for a Senior Subject Matter Expert (SME) with a notable history of delivering high-complexity projects or having spearheaded corporate sustainability initiatives.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Lead the development and implementation of environmental policies, procedures, and programs that promote sustainability within the airport city construction program.

  • Monitor compliance with environmental regulations related to air quality standards, water quality standards, hazardous waste management regulations, etc.

  • Conduct environmental audits to identify areas of improvement in waste reduction, energy efficiency, water conservation, noise reduction etc.

  • Develop strategies to reduce the construction carbon footprint by promoting renewable energy sources and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including to develop sustainability initiatives that align with business goals.

  • Educate employees on sustainable practices through training programs and communication campaigns.

  • Analyze data related to energy consumption, waste generation from terminal buildings, water usage, environmentally friendly techniques, reusable building material, etc., and to identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Work with suppliers and vendors to ensure they meet the sustainability requirements.

  • Stay up to date on new developments in environmental regulations specific to airports and best practices in sustainability management for airports.

  • Manage a team of Environmental & Sustainability professionals.

  • Guide project teams during planning, design development, tendering and construction supervision to enable achievement of projects sustainability and environmental goals.

  • Support the implementation of different sustainability rating systems such as LEED, Estidama, Mustadam, Envision, etc.

  • Work closely with project owners, developers, design teams and project managers to achieve sustainability objectives in the design and planning process.

  • Assist in starting up major programs and developing sustainability strategies tailored for each project’s aspirations and requirements.

  • Develop technical reports and studies for sustainability certification and environmental documentation as part of project deliverables.

  • Completes other responsibilities associated with the position as may be appropriate.

What Required Skills You'll Bring:

  • Master’s degree in environmental science, sustainability management or related field

  • Minimum 15+ years of experience in environmental management or sustainability preferably in large infrastructure (major earthworks and/or tunneling)

  • Strong knowledge of environmental regulations in the UAE

  • Strong knowledge of sustainability initiatives worldwide

  • Excellent project management skills

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and stakeholders.

  • Passion for sustainability and protecting the environment.

  • Documented participation in the preparation of a third-party sustainability certification application (e.g., LEED, Envision, Estidama), including at least two (2) completed, certified projects

  • GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) experience preferred.

  • Effective oral and written skills for client presentations, technical reporting, and internal / external correspondence; ability to effectively present information to key stakeholders as required by the client

  • Deep understanding of sustainability principles, practices, and standards, particularly in the context of large-scale infrastructure projects.

  • Proficiency in conducting and interpreting environmental impact assessments and integrating findings into project planning and execution.

  • Ability to collaborate with a team of design and construction management professionals.

  • Ability to interface with all levels with project team, client, and others.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of local and international environmental regulations and standards, ensuring all project activities are compliant.

  • Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints related to sustainability issues.

  • Strong analytical skills to assess sustainability metrics, track progress, and report on key performance indicators.

  • Ability to function in a multi-organizational environment by developing relationships that comply with the client’s proactive, collaborative culture.

  • Ability to interface with all levels of the project team, clients, regulatory bodies, and community groups to promote and implement sustainability initiatives.
