Amazon Senior Technical Program Manager, Region Services in VIC, Australia

Description

AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (Iot), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS, including support for customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Senior Technical Program Manager (TPM) to join the Region Services organization in delivering large-scale programs for some of the most mission critical clouds. The Sr TPM will lead cross-functional and technical teams through design, detailed requirements, build, testing, assurance and deployment. They will use judgment, negotiation skills, analytical talent, technical aptitude, and leadership to collaborate with a diverse set of stakeholders, deliver program roadmaps and strategies, eliminate non-value-add activity, design solutions, remove blockers, and find creative ways to accelerate project delivery.

The ideal candidate will be an exceptionally strong communicator, both written and verbally, and be a positive influencer across teams to meet program goals. They are able to handle business escalations with a data-driven approach to build trust with senior business and technical leaders.

We are looking for a passionate and results-oriented Sr TPM to define and drive Region Services initiatives. They will have a proven track record of planning and delivering complex programs with multi-year roadmaps, using a variety of program management tools.

If you like to focus on customer experience, think and act globally and want to contribute to the operational excellence of AWS, we’d like to meet you. Your work will help to take AWS into the future, innovate cloud computing solutions, solve technical problems and fundamentally transform the way national security and defense mission agencies partner with industry to meet mission requirements.

We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations in Australia:

Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra.

Key job responsibilities

  • Manage high-profile program(s) across multiple supporting teams to deliver successful outcomes for our customers and AWS.

  • Anticipate bottlenecks, proactively seek solutions to problems, provide escalation management and tradeoff decisions that benefit the program.

  • Earn trust through regular communication with senior management on program status and risks, demonstrating the ability to synthesize the problems and the solutions into a simple and consumable manner.

  • Rely heavily on influence over authority to drive project deliverables.

  • Own the metrics for project success and define, measure and report on these metrics. This involves data collection, analytics and dashboard creation as a way to report progress and help others recognize the best path to make the business better.

  • Develop, improve, and share operational best practices across the region and with peers globally.

  • Demonstrate ownership to help improve the safety, security, availability of our region operations.

  • Mentor, train, and develop career progression for indirect reports and members of the organization (Technicians and Technical Program Managers).

  • Obsess over team learning and development, both from a technical/functional and soft skills (critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and adaptability) development perspective.

Hold or be able to attain an Australian Government Security Vetting Agency clearance (see https://www.agsva.gov.au/applicants/eligibility-and-suitability)

A day in the life

TPMs look around corners to identify risks early and are quick to take action. They effectively balance ownership and hold partner teams to high standards of responsibility. They stand ready to leverage their technical and project-focused backgrounds to deep dive issues and develop mitigations to minimize impact. Our TPMs may dive deep to find the root cause of a material delivery issue that threatens the project schedule, cost, or quality. They investigate and address where the program is at risk/blocked, or discuss radical new approaches to improve operational processes. They are responsible for identifying and managing stakeholders, assembling resources, setting roadmaps, schedules and strategies for the program, driving progress, and holding the bar on quality.

Expect to travel globally and domestically where and when needed to manage and/or support initiatives of the teams you will support.
