The Doe Run Company is currently seeking a Research Technician to conduct specific chemical and metallurgical tests in laboratory, piloting, and plant settings ensuring accurate data collection and observations. This position is located in the heart of Mark Twain National Forest in Viburnum, MO at our Exploration and Development Division.

Responsibilities:

  • Run tests for the purpose of calculating recoveries. Calculate recoveries based on test results.
  • Conduct/maintain laboratory, piloting, and plant experiments and equipment.
  • Set up experiments and collect data/samples in lab and plant settings.
  • Create spreadsheets, graphs, and reports on tests run for different projects.
  • Collect, document, prepare and submit samples to the analytical lab.
  • Provide experimental feedback and results through verbal communication and written reports.
  • Complete tasks in a safe and environmentally compliant manner by following EHS (environmental, health, and safety) policies, procedures, and best practices; support and assist peers in working in a safe, compliant manner; report unsafe acts or conditions, incidents, and deviations; and provide feedback to support continuous improvement in EHS performance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent, Bachelors degree in chemistry, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in chemical and/or metallurgical testing.
  • Experience working with mechanical equipment with preference in lab/piloting setting preferred.
  • Valid drivers license.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of technical processes and procedures with attention to detail.
  • Ability to think critically and problem-solve regarding technical work.
  • Familiarity with chemical handling.
  • Intermediate metallurgical testing skills preferred
  • Ability to use and maintain equipment; troubleshoot errors and malfunctions.
  • Intermediate computer skills, including the use of Microsoft Office programs.
  • Ability to use hand tools.
  • Must have an understanding of environmental safety and health rules and regulations.

Work Environment, Physical and Lifting Requirements:

  • Regularly required to use hand tools both powered and non-powered, regularly required to use computer/tablet and phone. Occasionally required to use loading/hauling equipment.
  • Occasionally required to wear a respirator, frequently required to work near moving mechanical parts, frequently required to work in wet, humid conditions (non-weather), outdoor weather conditions, and vibration. Exposed to moderate noise levels and must use ear protection at times. Rarely required to work in extreme heat (non-weather) and extreme cold (non-weather).
  • Frequ ntly requires talking, hearing, grasping, standing, and walking. Occasionally requires sitting, feeling attributes of objects, and reaching with hands/arms. Rarely required to push, drive, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, and make repetitive movements. Requires clarity of vision at 20 inches or less and the ability to identify and distinguish colors. Requires hand-eye coordination and the ability to judge space distance.
  • Frequently required to lift up to 50 pounds; rarely required to lift up to 75 pounds.

Experience

Required

  • 1 year(s): Experience in chemical and/or metallurgical testing (internship, co-ops, course work and lab work).

Preferred

  • Experience working with mechanical equipment with preference in lab/piloting setting.
