United Health Services is seeking a Surgical Coordinator to join our Orthopedics team in Vestal, NY. This is a BENEFITS-ELIGIBLE position.
Shift: Days Hours per week: 40 Salary range: $18.32 - $24.78/hour, depending on experience
Surgical Coordinator Overview
Under the direction of the medical providers, this position’s primary function is to schedule surgical procedures. The responsibilities of the Surgical Scheduler include scheduling surgical procedure in ORSOS, scheduling all pre- and post-operative appointments and obtaining authorization. The Surgical Scheduler works closely with the clinical team, medical providers, and hospital staff to provide timely care for our patients.
Surgical Coordinator Key Responsibilities and Expectations
Essential Functions: Essential functions are those tasks, duties and responsibilities that are performed with or without reasonable accommodation.
Demonstrates understanding of UHS scheduling system.
Uses UHS EHR to schedule: surgery, pre op, post op, medical clearances, cardiac clearances, and PAT as advised by the provider.
Demonstrates understanding of insurance authorization process, with knowledge of health plan resources and contacts for facilitating timely patient surgeries.
Accepts and returns patient phone calls in a timely manner and communicates effectively. Counsels & educates patients concerning pre and post operative appointments and insurance authorizations.
Completes correct forms (paper/online) and information required to facilitate request. Uses information including diagnosis and procedure codes, signatures, specialist information and medical record documentation.
Maintains effective record keeping system that includes a checklist for contacting health plan, patient, and hospital.
Documents communications with health plan and other entities in the EHR system.
Prioritizes requests, responding immediately and expediting most urgent requests.
Promotes and facilitates the compliance and of Joint Commission, NYS DOH, Infection Control and all regulatory standards.
Participates in Performance Improvement activities within the office.
Performs medical receptionist duties as requested.

Position Qualifications
Minimum:
High School Graduate or equivalent
Two (2) years’ experience working in healthcare
Two (2) years’ experience working in customer service
Proficient PC skills
Knowledge of Medical Terminology
Preferred:
AAS in an accredited MOA program or equivalent
Knowledge of insurance referral process
Basic computer skills; HER, Excel, Microsoft Office
