The Maintenance Specialist I Carpenter performs skilled work in maintaining and repairing of buildings and equipment at North Texas State Hospital. Work involves assisting in alterations, new construction, repairs, and preventative maintenance. Helps replace broken window glass and damaged sheetrock, and other related duties. Will work weekend rotation schedule as required. Work is performed under the supervision of the Maintenance Specialist IV, Carpenter Supervisor IV, Assistant Plant Manager and Plant Maintenance Manager. Performs other duties as assigned. Other duties include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.This position may also be eligible to earn additional pay for work performed on maximum security locations. Essential Job FunctionsAttends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned. Assists in new construction such as parking lots and sidewalks with tasks being done in a professional and efficient manner to ensure compliance with instructions and quality standards.Assists in installing and repairing ceramic tile, rubber cove base, and all types of resilient flooring with tasks being done in a professional and efficient manner to ensure compliance with instructions and quality standards.Performs preventative maintenance on buildings such as roofs, flooring, foundations, locks, windows, doors with tasks being done in a professional and efficient manner to ensure compliance with instructions and quality standards.Replaces broken glass, install and repair window screens and windows to ensure safety of patients and staff.Accounts for personal tool inventory by following departmental procedures to ensure safety of patients and employees. Follows departmental standards on tool accountability.Will work weekend rotation schedule as required with tasks being done in a professional and efficient manner to ensure compliance with instructions and quality standards. Performs other tasks as assigned.Employee actively participates and/or serves in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation.Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy.Registrations, Licensure Requirements or CertificationsMust have the appropriate license (Class C) for the type of vehicle being driven as required by Texas Civil Statutes.
