Job/Position DescriptionThe Groundskeeper I performs routine maintenance and construction work relating to the grounds of North Texas State Hospital and#150; Vernon Campus. Work involves assisting mechanics in maintenance of turf grass areas, pruning of shrubs and trees, care of annual and ornamental flowers. Other tasks include: trash collecting and transporting trash as scheduled, cleaning of trash receptacles, operation and limited maintenance of grounds equipment, maintenance of fences, streets and sidewalks, snow and ice removal, and litter control. Will work weekend rotation schedule as required. Work is performed on the Vernon Campus and may be performed on the Wichita Falls campus as needed. The Grounds keeper I works under supervision of the Groundskeeper III, Maintenance Supervisor I, Assistant Plant Maintenance Manager and the Plant Maintenance Manager.Essential Job FunctionsAttends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.Transports trash from units and outside receptacles to provide a pleasant and infectious free environment according to the daily schedule. Provides general maintenance to trash receptacles according to the preventative maintenance schedule and supervisorand#146;s instructions to provide a pleasant and infectious free environment for patients and staff.Operates ground maintenance equipment in a safe and proper manner according to the operatorand#146;s manual and supervisorand#146;s instructions, to ensure safety of operator, staff, clients, and provide an aesthetically pleasing and functional grounds.Performs general maintenance to grounds equipment before each operation according to service manual and department policy to keep equipment in safe and serviceable condition.Assists in pruning of shrubs and trees and in proper operation of pruning and hedge clipping equipment to ensure safety of operator, staff, clients, and provide an aesthetically pleasing and functional grounds.Provide routine maintenance to streets and sidewalks to ensure safety to clients and staff according to supervisorand#146;s instructions.Provides assistance and availability for removing snow and ice from walks, parking lots and streets to ensure safety of clients and staff during inclement weather.Provides maintenance and repair to facility fences to ensure safety of clients, staff and the public.Provides routine litter removal from Vernon facility grounds to provide an aesthetically pleasing campus for the clients and staff.Provides assistance in planting and care of annual flowers to provide an aesthetically pleasing environment for the clients, staff and the public.Will work weekend rotation schedule as required with tasks being done in a professional and efficient manner to ensure compliance with instructions and quality standards.Employee actively participates and/or serves in a supporting role to meet the agencyand#146;s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation.Performs other duties as assigned.Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy.Registrations, Licensure Requirements or CertificationsMust have the appropriate license for the type of vehicle being driven as required by Texas Civil Statutes.A valid class C or higher Texas drivers license.Knowledge Skills AbilitiesKnowledge of turf grass maintenance.Knowledge of shade tree maintenancePlanting and care of annual plants.Skill in th https://jobshrportal.hhsc.state.tx.us/ENG/CareerPortal/job\_profile.cfm?szOrderID=530542 Copy the URL in the preceding sentence to an Internet Explorer browser to apply to the job directly through the Texas Health and Human Services Career Portal.
