Description

Under direction, maintains cleanliness of assigned areas within the hospital and/or other healthcare facilities; performs related duties as required.

We are seeking a reliable, trustworthy, and honest individual to join our housekeeping team. The ideal candidate will have some prior housekeeping experience and demonstrate a positive attitude towards peers, medical staff, and the general public. The candidate will have compassion and empathy towards vulnerable patients and be capable of learning and performing routine cleaning task in patient rooms, nursing units, offices, waiting areas, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, and corridors, and other assigned area(s) within the hospital and/or other healthcare facilities.

This classification is distinguished from the Custodian series by its specialization in healthcare facilities with respect to maintenance of cleanliness and sanitary standards.

Payroll Title: Housekeeper I

WORK SHIFT: Various shifts including weekends and holidays.

(Morning: 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, Evening Shift: 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm , Night shift: 11:00 pm to 7:00 am)

WHAT WE OFFER

The County of Ventura offers an attractive compensation and benefits package that includes:

  • A general salary increase of 3.5% effective December 22, 2024.

  • Merit Increases – New employees are eligible for an initial 5% merit increase within the pay range upon completion of at least 1,040 hours (approximately 6 months) assuming work meets satisfactory standards. Subsequent merit increases within the pay range will be upon completion of each additional 2,080 hours (approximately one year) from the initial merit increase.

  • Evening/Night Shift Differential: Up to 10% above their current base salary.

  • Uniform: Employees receive 5 sets pants/shirts at no cost to the employee.

  • Educational Incentive - An educational incentive of 2.5% for completion of an associate's degree, 3.5% for completion of a bachelor's degree, OR 5% for completion of a graduate degree.

  • Veteran's Points - This is an entry-level classification, and Veteran's Points may apply to eligible applicants.

  • Bilingual Incentive - Based on agency need, proficiency levels by exam are $.69 per hour (Level I), $1.00 per hour (Level II), or $1.32 per hour (Level III).

  • Vacation Accrual -New regular, full-time employees shall accrue approximately 14 days of vacation a year for the first 10,400 hours or 5 years of service; vacation accruals increase at 5, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 and 20 years of service topping out at 26 days a year and 400 hours of vacation hours banked.

  • Vacation Leave Redemption - After 14,560 hours of continuous County service an employee may elect to "cash in" or redeem up to 80 hours of vacation accrued in the same year after using 80 hours of vacation in the preceding 12 months.

  • Sick Leave - Full time regular employees accrue 3.08 hours of sick leave per bi-weekly pay period with an advance at hire of 40.04 hours which will be balanced at the completion of 13 bi-weekly pay periods.

  • Deferred Compensation - Eligible to participate in the County's 401(k) Shared Savings Plan and/or the Section 457 Plan. This position is eligible for up to a 3.00% match on your 401(k) contributions.

  • Health Plans - Full time employees are given a flexible credit allowance of up to $21,450 annually to offset the purchase of medical, dental, and/or vision insurance for you and your dependents.

  • Employee only - $502 per biweekly pay period

  • Employee plus one dependent - $730 per biweekly pay period

  • Employee plus family - $905 per biweekly pay period

  • Flexible Spending Accounts - Pre-tax benefit towards eligible medical, dental and vision care and/or dependent care expenses.

  • Pension Plan - Participation in the County's defined pension plan, which has reciprocity with CalPERS.

  • Holidays - 12 paid days per year which, includes a scheduled floating holiday.

  • Additional Benefits - Tuition Reimbursement, Disability Plans, Employee Assistance Program, Life Insurance, Wellness Program.

Health Care Agency Housekeeper I is represented by the Service Employees' International Union (SEIU) and is eligible for overtime compensation.

The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill current and future Regular (including Temporary and Fixed-term), Intermittent, and Extra Help vacancies for the Health Care Agency. There are currently two (2) Regular vacancies and two (2) Temporary vacancies at the Ventura County Medical Center/Santa Paula Hospital, various shifts.

TENTATIVE SCHEDULE

OPENING DATE: May 22, 2024

CLOSING DATE: Continuous and may close at any time; therefore, the schedule for the remainder of the process will depend upon when we receive a sufficient number of qualified applications to meet business needs.

Examples Of Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Washes and/or scrubs and disinfects restroom fixtures, drinking fountains, clinic/patient care furniture/equipment, windows and screens, blinds, walls, light fixtures, showers, and tubs using a variety of cleaning agents and equipment; replenishes lavatory supplies and cleaning materials;

  • Cares for and cleans floors by sweeping, mopping, stripping, sealing, waxing, and buffing floor areas; ensures public safety in the work area by posting notices, roping off areas to passage, or other such methods;

  • Vacuums, shampoos, spot cleans, and/or deep steam cleans carpets and upholstered furniture; moves furniture incidental to cleaning activities;

  • Dusts, polishes and cleans desks, tables, shelves, cabinets, woodwork and other furniture;

  • Collects and disposes of recycled materials, medical waste, and/or trash.

  • Replaces soiled draperies and cubicle curtains; distributes laundered articles and linen;

  • Keeps work station, utility or storage rooms, and equipment clean and in an orderly condition; prepares work activity logs and initiates requests to replenish supplies, repair equipment, and other such activities; services and makes minor repairs to tools and equipment;

  • Performs laboring activities related to preparing for facility use, making hospital beds, cleaning entrance ways and public use areas outside buildings, and other such activities; and

  • Performs other related duties as required.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be available to work weekends and holidays.

  • Must be willing and able to perform manual labor associated with facility cleaning work which may involve lifting objects weighing up to 50 lbs. and includes the full range of body movements (reaching, bending, grasping, and climbing) with or without reasonable accommodations.

  • Must be willing and able to work in a healthcare environment which includes exposure to environmental hazards including communicable diseases.

Desirable: Some housekeeping or custodial experience in a hospital, health clinic, or other healthcare facility is desirable.

Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:

Ability to: learn the methods of cleaning and caring for hospital facilities; read and apply written directions regarding the use of machines and cleaning solutions; understand and follow verbal instructions; learn to use and operate custodial tools and equipment; wash walls, windows, restrooms; remove and handle disposal of recycled material, medical waste and trash; work independently; learn and apply cleanliness and sanitary standards; recognize and correct unsafe conditions; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships; demonstrates tact and diplomacy in working with patients, the public and the professional staff.

Independent travel between assigned facilities may involve driving; therefore positions allocated to this class may require possession of a valid California driver's license.
