Job Summary:

The Site EHS Specialist I is a key member of our EHS Team and a critical partner for our operational site teams at planning, project execution and post outage review stage. The Field EHS Specialist I is responsible for supporting with the creation and execution of a comprehensive EHS plan on our operational site, that drives the best-in-class standards of EHS and sustainability.

The objective of this role is to observe, advise, coach and support those with operational responsibilities during planning phase and on-site execution, to prevent injuries, help drive accountability and remain in compliance with company/client EHS policies, programs, and procedures alongside country legislative standards.

The field EHS team are central to the adoption, communication, and implementation of injury preventative EHS initiatives and campaigns to reiterate our NO HARM culture.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Partner with the operational team in all matters related to EHS Planning, On Site Execution and Outage Close out for lower complexity outage scopes / customer sites or in support to a Senior EHS Specialist in a high complexity scope / customer site, as assigned by your Resource Manager depending on work demand, competency, and availability

  • Outage Planning – Remove and mitigate Risk Pre-Deployment

  • Contribute to outage planning and Outage Readiness Reviews (ORR). Clearly communicating the EHS needs with the project team and manage all compliance activities, including the implementation of in-country legislation and Gas Power OFS EHS programs

  • Consult with Service Manager, Lead Field Engineer, Outage Manager and Customer on any potential workplace and task-specific hazards (and the control of such hazards) such as Asbestos, Lead, Arsenic, and Hexavalent Chrome, which may impact the work scope

  • Facilitate site walkdowns to ensure strong planning that includes access/egress/laydown areas

  • Ensure medical preparedness and that facilities are readily available for all employees. Ensure that records are properly maintained

  • Mobilization Phase

  • Develop and maintain the One Field Services (OFS) EHS Plan, including current Risk Management tools (such as Outage Risk Profile) for each outage in collaboration with the Service Manager and/or Outage Manager. Provide support to communicate and manage all sections of the plan

  • Establish and monitor adherence to workers work-rest cycle (rest and recovery plan) schedule

  • Manage required compliance activities, including the implementation of in-country legislation and OFS current EHS programs

  • Confirm submission of all required site documents prior to outage team arrival

  • Deliver relevant project specific EHS training, including site induction/orientation training for craft and field crew as well as visitors to ensure that all personnel are informed of site safe working procedures, customer requirements, and practices to fulfill their responsibilities. Ensure records of attendance are maintained

  • Complete the security plan (non-US group I & II country safety plans) and verify with Security Team

  • On Site Execution

  • Drive the implementation of OFS EHS Plan, standards, and procedures at site

  • Observe and monitor progress of work to coach and advise our on-site teams to ensure:

  • The correct Field Procedures are being used

  • Identification of hazardous work practices and hazardous conditions associated with tasks – to proactively coach teams when there are gaps in risk control

  • Meaningful hazard prevention and control conversation are held and facilitated by point of work risk assessment tools (such as Task Risk Assessments)

  • Continually coach and reinforce the need of peer checks on site to prevent human error and injury

  • Host “Tool Box” talks, safety meetings, orientations, and training ensuring the team understands the hazards associated with the scope of work and maintain the relevant records

  • Stop Work when conditions of work practices are unsafe and coach all team members to do the same. Contribute to safe solutions to resume work

  • Review customers permit systems, including requirements for site posting of permits, LOTO, Hot Work, Confined Space procedures, and One Field Services Lift Plans

  • Under the direction of EHS Managers, support incident investigations and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) of incidents or near miss, including compilation and completion of any necessary documentation [photos, interviews, witness statements, etc.]

  • Support and conduct audits to ensure safe work procedures are being followed in respect to Company policy, OSHA, EPA, DOT, and client/ company policy as well as applicable regulatory state and federal laws within specified area where work is being performed

  • Proactively coach early reporting of all safety incidents and escalate accidents and incidents appropriately through company processes and procedures

  • Ensure Emergency Response capabilities are in place and maintained, e.g. work-at-height rescue

  • Complete, document, and submit all required EHS reports and recordkeeping information

  • Ensure the chemical management program is followed

  • Conduct Hazard hunts to identify/eliminate hazards and reinforce “No Harm” culture

  • Manage EHS shifts report and turnover shift process

  • Post Outage

  • Complete the end of outage report (Post Outage Report) as required by the business and share with the relevant stakeholders

  • Contribute to lessons learnt activities as required

  • Additional responsibilities

  • Identify, escalate, and report complex hazards and risk mitigation

  • Develop innovative ways to motivate crew to maintain a strong EHS culture and maintain safe work practices

  • Attend customer meetings as required

  • Proactively seek mentorship and guidance in emergent complex issues or during your learning and development of own skills and knowledge

  • Travel may be required

  • Ability and willingness to work holidays, weekends and overtime as required by field assignments

  • You may be assigned other duties to help proactively drive our FieldCore vision and align with our organization’s core values.

Required Qualifications & Experience :

  • (i) Technical/University degree in EHS or engineering discipline OR (ii) High School Diploma (GED) combined with qualifying work experience in industrial safety or a safety related field

  • Working knowledge of EHS regulatory requirements across the work region including knowledge of concepts, techniques, and/or best practices, such as risk management (risk identification, risk evaluation/assessment and risk control)

  • Ability to promptly research and understand state / provincial / local EHS requirements

  • Firm understanding of auditing

  • Good written communication for example to prepare comprehensive accurate semi- technical reports that contains key findings and recommendations, fill out permits, document OSHA inspections, documenting details to support RCA

  • Interpersonal skills – including the ability to coach and influence field employees, leaders and customers in a high pressure, safety critical environment

  • Ability and willingness to travel with minimal notice

  • Proficient in English language both written and verbal

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft office applications and other Internet based reporting tools

Desired Characteristics:

  • Customer service experience

  • Experience of safety in Power Generation, manufacturing or heavy construction setting. Experience and knowledge of the risks involved in the maintenance of equipment in the power generation industry (relevant to where the job is located; e.g., Gas Turbines, Steam Turbines, Generators)

  • Professional EHS Certification: NEBOSH National General Certificate or equivalent certification or an Occupational Safety qualification (e.g., OHST, Graduate Safety Practitioner, Certified Occupational Safety Specialist, CSP) preferred

  • Knowledge of ISO 45001 and ISO 19011

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft office applications and other Internet based reporting tools

  • Auditing certification

  • Knowledge of Gensuite and/or experience in business reporting systems
