Vancouver Public Schools School Nurse in Vancouver, Washington

Qualifications:

  • Valid Washington State Educational Staff Associate (ESA) certificate for the role of School Nurse

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited institution of higher learning; master's degree preferred

  • Licensed in the State of Washington as a registered nurse

  • Possess basic public health preparation and field experience

  • Ability to understand procedures and function in a school system with regard to the special part health services play in the overall education of the student

  • Prior experience in public health or public school nursing or pediatric nursing, preferred

  • Experience in health education in personal safety, nutrition, personal hygiene, AIDS education, and/or drug/alcohol/tobacco training, preferred

  • Must possess a valid Washington State driver’s license

  • Must provide own transportation

  • Ability to work cooperatively with students and their parents, district staff, and community members who are culturally, racially, and linguistically diverse

  • Advanced ability to use technology as an effective communication, planning and instructional tool

  • Willingness to participate in professional development courses aligned with the school and district initiatives

Essential Functions:

  • Performs tasks with a distinct clinical knowledge base to collaborate with school professionals, parents and caregivers to meet the health, developmental, and educational needs of students

  • Plans and supervises the care of students with acute and chronic health care needs in the school setting

  • Schedules, conducts, and/or supervises health-related screenings e.g. hearing, vision, etc.

  • Works collaboratively with district and health department officials regarding communicable diseases

  • Writes and maintains student health plans

  • Participates in meetings for special needs students, as appropriate

  • Travel between school sites may be necessary

  • Works in a flexible and cooperative manner

  • Treats co-workers, supervisors, students, parents, and others with dignity and respect at all times

  • Serves as a positive role model for students, and practices the behaviors that are expected of our students

  • Maintains regular and punctual attendance and hours of operation as set by the assigned building/location and the Comprehensive Professional Agreement to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position to achieve program requirements

  • Other duties as assigned

Benefits/Compensation:

  • Salary range: $60,681 - $114,376 (includes Base & TRI enrichment; commensurate upon FTE, degree, credits and experience). Salary schedules can be accessed here (https://vansd.org/salary-schedules/) .

  • Additional Compensation: Certificated positions may have additional pay provisions above what is represented on the salary range such as, but not limited to TRI professional learning, extended year days, extra appendix E supplemental days and professional development reimbursement.
