Jamie Benway with Robert Half is searching for an ambitious Controller to join a reputable Construction/Contractor company. This is a leadership role with responsibility over an accounting and clerical department. As the Controller, you will be planning and directing all accounting operational functions, handling the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluating accounting and internal control systems, and leading departmental staff. The Controller will be a permanent employment opportunity and will be located in the Vancouver, Washington region.

Key responsibilities

  • Evaluate, apply and refine policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies

  • Research, plan and implement Finance Department initiatives including software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, as needed

  • Reviews deliverables of self and team to ensure that they meet client expectations

  • Produce cash-flow reports, calculating cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals, and manage daily cash

  • Respond on items beyond formal job responsibilities

  • Present monthly financial reports to executive committee and partners

  • Collaborate with executive team and partners to support efficient and effective firm-wide operation

  • Handle monthly and annual close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations & G/L analysis

  • Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts and monitor on a monthly basis

  • Direct finance department activities, such as accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll

  • Ensure timely cash collection by driving the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques

Salary Range: $115k - $125k

Bonus: discretionary

Requirements - Strong analytical skills, accuracy and attention to detail

  • Takes action on items beyond formal job responsibilities

  • Progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred

  • Accounting experience in publicly-traded company a plus

  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field

  • Outstanding communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, both oral and written, and ability to build as well as deliver effective presentations

  • Detailed and have the ability work independently

  • Ability to prioritize deals and adapt to quick changes while remaining diligent, and to thrive in a dynamic, high pressure environment

  • Excellent technology, analytics and management experience required

  • Ability and willingness to meet business critical deadlines

  • CPA/MBA preferred

  • Month end closings experience desired

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
