WSP USA Environmental Field Technician in Vancouver, British Columbia

We are currently seeking Environmental Field Technicians to join our Contaminated Lands department, located at our Vancouver office.

The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting field work related to monitoring, investigating, remediating, and reclaiming contaminated sites. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will support projects related to the assessment. It is expected the candidate will be self-motivated and will demonstrate strong time management and communication skills.

The Opportunity

  • Fieldwork and coordination for Environmental Site Investigations;

  • Preparing and adhering to site-specific health and safety plans to mitigate or eliminate risks to you, WSP's clients, employees, and the public

  • Planning and conducting soil, groundwater, soil vapour and surface water sampling using a variety of techniques;

  • Overseeing soil hydro-excavation and drilling contractors including soil classifications and groundwater monitoring well installation;

  • Working with contractors to oversee test pitting, excavation, surveying, utility locating work;

  • Overseeing remedial contractors including directing remedial excavations, waste tracking, and progress reporting

  • Using appropriate technology and equipment to collect field data;

  • Compiling, analyzing, and reviewing data to develop a conceptual model of site characteristics and interpreting nature and extent of contamination;

  • Conducting environmental monitoring during construction to document adherence to environmental protection measures;

  • Traveling for fieldwork;

  • Applying and interpreting results for quality and accuracy of the end product

  • Preparing and coordinating project documentation, subcontractors, and equipment for field programs

  • Filing and managing all project-related field notes including some data entry and assistance with report preparation

  • Performing and recording work tasks as requested efficiently and accurately while adhering to current industry standards and regulatory requirements

  • Other duties as assigned;

We'd love to hear from you if you have ...

  • A completed college diploma or university degree specializing in environmental science or a related discipline;

  • Previous experience with soil and groundwater sampling is a requirement

  • More than 5 years of relevant experience;

  • Logical thinking and ability to bring practical solutions to field challenges;

  • Attention to detail in the completion of project-critical documentation;

  • Strong organization skills and the ability to schedule multiple tasks within set deadlines for various stages of projects, including field work and reporting;

  • Self-motivated and able to work independently or in a team environment;

  • Strong awareness of health and safety issues and a safety-conscious attitude;

  • Active enjoyment of outdoors, in all seasons and weather;

  • Have a valid BC drivers license.

Compensation

Expected Salary (British Columbia): $53,100 to $73,000

The final salary awarded for this role may vary from the above range based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs. The salary range provided in this job posting may be subject to change for business purposes.
