The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority is an arm’s-length federal agency responsible for the shared stewardship of the lands and waters that make up the Port of Vancouver, Canada’s largest port. As a Community Relations Student, you will:
Workclosely with up to eight other post-secondary students representing theVancouver Fraser Port Authority as ambassadors for the Port of Vancouver byimplementing our outreach activities at community events across the LowerMainland, primarily held on weekends, and/or support Canada Place signature eventson location at Canada Place.
Promote the Port of Vancouverwith an interactive promotional tent at external community events throughoutthe Lower Mainland, including the Vancouver International Children’sFestival, Surrey Fusion Festival and Boundary Bay Airshow.
Assist in planning andpreparing for attendance at community events, including liaising with the communityevent organizer(s), packing event materials, and coordinating transportation.
Assistwith event execution at community events including planning booth activation,setup and tear down, mascot handling, and Leadership Student oversight.
Provide guest services andpromote the Port of Vancouver on-site at Canada Place, helping to drawconnections between the port and Canada Place, through experiential tent andguest engagement, and during Canada Place signature events.
Provide ongoing support for Saltythe Seagull (our Mascot), including handling Salty at events.
Provide ongoing support tosecondary school students taking part in our volunteer Leadership Program.
If requested, provide PowerPoint“Port 101” presentations in the Port of Vancouver’s Discovery Centre aboutthe history, business, and environmental efforts at the Port of Vancouver andthe Vancouver Fraser Port Authority [KC1] .
Narrate or support BurrardInlet and Fraser River boat tours for a variety of groups, as required.
Assist at conferences,receptions, and events including set up, guest check-in, and tear down.
Assist other teams in Eventsand Experience with projects as required.
Performother duties as assigned.
What you bring:
As thesuccessful candidate, you are an outgoing person with excellent verbal andwritten communication, along with exceptional interpersonal, presentation andteamwork skills.
You areenthusiastic, outgoing, customer service-oriented, reliable and a team playerwho is willing to roll up your sleeves to get the job done.
Previousexperience in customer service, events or promotion work, and knowledge of asecond language is an asset.
Preferencewill be given to candidates with a class 5 driver’s license.
To be eligible for this position, you must be a full-time student who has completed at least one year of post-secondary education with plans to return to your studies in the fall semester in 2025 (proof of education will be required).

To be eligible for this role, youmust be available to attend the community relations training from May 6 toMay 16, 2025.
Location: Vancouver, Canada
Job type: Bargaining Unit, Seasonal/ In-person. Averaging approx. 30-37.5 hours per week including evenings and weekends. Occasional overtime.
Working environment: Requirement to travel within the Lower Mainland. (The requirement to work varying hours including most weekends).
Duration: The community relations staff position is primarily a summer position running from approximately May 6, 2025, to August 29, 2025, with the opportunity to work occasional weekend shifts from September to December (approx. 6 to 10 events). Mandatory shifts will be both Canada Together (July 1) and Port Day (September 27).
