The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is currently seeking a Semi Skilled Laborer to become part of the Bureau of Abandoned Mine Reclamation. In this position, you will play a vital role in supporting the Bureau's efforts to operate and maintain both active and passive treatment facilities for acid mine drainage. DESCRIPTION OF WORK In this role, you will support the Bureau of Abandoned Mine Reclamation by managing and maintaining both active and passive treatment facilities designed to address acid mine drainage. Your responsibilities will include operating the lime feed system to ensure the appropriate addition of slurry, which is crucial for effectively neutralizing incoming water and sustaining the desired pH and alkalinity levels in the treated effluent.

You will be tasked with collecting and analyzing water samples to monitor the treatment process's efficiency, meticulously recording your findings in the daily report. Additionally, you will perform repairs and maintenance on motors, mixers, pumps, and other equipment integral to the acid mine drainage processing operations.

Your duties will also involve operating pumps to ensure that sludge blanket depths in the clarifiers and sludge solids in the thickener are maintained at optimal levels. Furthermore, you will manage the belt filter press to dewater the acid mine drainage sludge collected during the treatment process, preparing it for final disposal at an approved site.

In the event of power outages or high flow situations, you will operate standby equipment, including an alternate lime feed pump and an emergency generator, to ensure the plant continues to function efficiently. Lastly, you will be required to obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver's License within one year of your appointment, enabling you to operate a dump truck for hauling sludge and plant equipment, along with any other assigned duties.

Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Salary:Most selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $35,306.00 (before taxes). QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: One year of experience in laboring work including the use of tools and equipment used in maintenance or construction; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Condition of Employment: This position requires possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.
