Overview

Operating supervisor will be responsible for overseeing the installation, maintenance, and repair of various overhead equipment and automatic transfer switches. Also, will be responsible for overseeing the INFARED inspections of all Bronx Westchester overhead feeders. Supervisor will be responsible for managing a weekly workforce made up of Junior Electric Technicians, Electric Technicians, and Senior Electric Technicians.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • The Operating Supervisor will ensure implementation of Company safety, health and environmental programs for employees whose work is directed and ensure that safe work practices are followed and the environment is fully protected in accordance with Company policy and governmental regulations.
  • Ensures the safe timely and efficient operation of day to day activities in this includes dispatching crews, ensuring that inspections of overhead switches and relays are completed on time and that all issues are addressed in a timely manner and in accordance with operating procedures and engineering specifications.
  • An Operating Supervisor supervises Junior Electric Technicians, Electrical Technicians and Senior Electrical Technicians in the inspection, testing and commissioning of overhead switches, reclosers, and relays; Ensures that the maintenance and inspection of overhead equipment and automatic transfer switches is performed in compliance with Operating Procedures. While ensuring that the maintenance and inspection of overhead equipment is performed in compliance with Engineering Specifications and Manufacturers guidelines and that technicians work activities are performed in a safe and efficient manner consistent with established company procedures and principles.
  • Orders, coordinates and ensures availability and timely delivery of materials, supplies and equipment. Communicates with an FTS and Work Organizer to ensure the timely scheduling of work and outage based activities. Certifies accounts for and approves expenditures for labor, material and equipment within prescribed limits. Must have the ability to understand and interpret M&S plates, diagrams, schematics and feeder prints.
  • Must be capable of communicating with internal customers such as the Regional Control Center and Engineering in an effort to address various emergency situations and system abnormalities.
  • Possess working knowledge of computer systems, these would include: iProcurement, Business Intelligence (BI); Internet Explorer; e2MIS; Microsoft Office Suite and Logica Suite products such as Field Manager, ARM Webb Portal and Obvient web reports is preferred.
  • Take corrective actions and give timely feedback to staff. Interpret computerized reports and determine their application for work related activities.
  • Enforce Company Policies and Procedures in reference to equal employment opportunity (EEO), substance abuse and security.
  • Discuss with crews the current corporate KPIs.
  • Openly communicate and obtain pre-approval from Section Manager to work routine overtime.
  • Comprehend and stay within the budgeted O&M, Capital, and Retirement budgets.
  • Raise complex technical issues to the Field Technical Specialist and be able to retain the knowledge to handle future occurrences. Properly perform job specific technical hands on training as required through field observations. Implement progressive discipline as needed in alignment with company policy and procedures. Responsible for technical training and/or re-training/mentoring of field crews when needed.
  • Complete and obtain Section Managers approval on weekly performance reviews. Create development plans that address performance gaps.
  • Additionally provides a workplace environment that fosters professionalism, honesty, concern, courtesy, excellence and teamwork.
  • Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree and 2 years relevant technical experience or
  • Associate's Degree and 4 years relevant technical experience or
  • High School Diploma/GED and 5 years relevant technical experience
Relevant Work Experience
  • At least two to five years experience in technical experience or working knowledge in the installation, maintenance, repair and inspection of the overhead transmission, distribution, and underground residential distribution system including: meter installation, overhead and underground residential distribution transformers and cable pulling.
  • Thorough working knowledge in the installation, maintenance, testing and repair of overhead switches, reclosers, capacitors, and automatic transfer switches is required.
  • Must have the ability to supervise employees and possess a high energy level, be flexible, and be able to demonstrate the ability to handle multiple assignments.
  • Must be a self-starter, and with strong decision-making skills.
  • Must be willing to work overtime and be on call 24 hours a day, to include storm emergency work and be willing to work rotating shifts, including weekends and Holidays.
  • Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to work with all levels of management and union personnel and should have competent working knowledge of relevant corporate environmental and safety procedures.
  • Must have experience meeting deadlines and managing competing priorities as well as the ability to obtain a working knowledge of in-house software such as AVAIL, Oracle, BI, Logica, Web Workspace and ARM Web Portal.

Additional Physical Demands
  • Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
  • Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory, as needed.
  • Must be able to work on ladders and in buckets Extensive walking, climbing, bending, and driving.
  • Must be available to work overtime and be on call 24 hours a day, to include storm emergency work.
  • Must be able to work outdoors under extreme weather conditions for long periods of time.
