The Vice President for Student Affairs (VPSA) reports to the President, serves as SUNY Poly's chief student affairs officer, and is part of the President's Leadership Team. The VPSA is responsible for determining strategic direction, long-range planning, and oversight of the day-to-day operation of Student Affairs areas in consultation/collaboration with the Student Affairs Director/AVP. Reporting areas include Athletics, Career Services, Accessibility Services, EOP and Multicultural Affairs, Wellness (including Counseling), International Students Services, CSTEP, and an Assistant Vice President/Dean of Students who oversees Student Involvement (including Student Government, FYS, Orientation), Residential Life, the Care Team and Community Standards. The VPSA oversees the development, approval, and implementation of campus policy related to student conduct/community standards and other student-oriented operations, and is also responsible for the recruitment/appointment of staff, student/staff development, budget oversight, and support for institutional assessment activities. The Vice President assists in guiding the institution to provide for the intellectual, social, physical, ethical, and emotional development of students through diverse and inclusive services, programming, and collaborative activities and supports and encourages through active engagement. The VPSA also ensures that SUNY Poly complies with federal, state, and campus regulations relevant to student-related areas.

  • Lead and oversee multiple departments in Student Affairs as noted above. Provide leadership, oversight, and direction to direct reports to ensure goals, programs, activities, and personnel practices are consistent with and contribute to the Institution's goals and strategies. Design and implement operating strategies, plans, and procedures to ensure the smooth functioning of SUNY Poly and maximize student success. Lead employees for maximum performance and dedication. Complete performance management feedback and goals per requirements. Reports to the President; provides leadership to Student Affairs. Serves as the President's designee on Student Code of Conduct violations.

  • Work with and support students, and student government leaders to enhance the student experience, and provide strategic direction to SA departments. Provides oversight to retention-related initiatives to increase student persistence, satisfaction, and graduation rates. Actively engage in student-centered and student-organized programs/activities.

  • Serve on the President's Cabinet and Senior Leadership Team; participate in and attend College Council. Play a leadership role in the development and implementation of SUNY Poly's Strategic Plan

  • Oversee compliance with federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to Student Affairs. Provide management and oversight of Student Affairs departmental budgets to ensure fiscal responsibility. Adhere to and foster high standards of ethical conduct, compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, and appropriate financial oversight and controls. Ensure systems are in place to monitor and track compliance with all federal and state laws and regulations and ensure staff training to comply with relevant laws and regulations.

  • Represent SUNY Poly on campus, SUNY, and local/statewide committees as required. Cultivate and collaborate with faculty, staff, and community leaders to form partnerships to support and implement programs fostering student success, engagement, and persistence.   • Crisis intervention and response. Provides leadership and guidance in response to crises and supports students, their families, and staff. Work with the AVP/Dean of Students to ensure responsiveness to student crises.

  • Other reasonable duties as assigned.

Salary: $150,000 - $170,000

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master's Degree in higher education administration, student affairs, counseling, or a related field from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization.

  • 7 to 10 years of progressive experience in student affairs or a related area.

  • Candidates must also possess a successful record of leadership and have demonstrated excellence in management, communications, and commitment to DEI.
