Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to: The research scientist will work with SUNY Poly's Vice President for Research (VPR) to build connections between the relevant student, staff, and faculty at SUNY Poly and relevant activities at Paterson Aerospace. As a Solutions Architect the research scientist will research, test, and develop key capabilities in support of the Situational Awareness Satellite System (SASS) and Satellite Accountability Blockchain (StAB) systems. They will develop, integrate and assess software and hardware for embedded systems, cloud architectures, and AI/ML capabilities for data acquisition and processing. The fellow will also assist in the development of user manuals and training materials. Lastly, they will investigate and help provide solutions to technical issues both individually and as a contributing team member to an agile environment of developers, testers, and investigators, and provide insight on the development of hardware infrastructure needed to support current and future work at Paterson Aerospace. The research scientist will also be expected to participate in collaborative activities within the SUNY Poly research centers and campus seminars as they overlap with common themes of research activities. Through this work the research scientist will also assist in advancing the collaborative research goals between SUNY Poly, SUNY RF, Griffiss Institute, and Paterson Aerospace within the SUNY Poly - Griffiss Institute Defense Fellowship program. Annual training activities on the responsible conduct of research will be expected.

Job Requirements:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Degrees from college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization.

A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science or a related discipline, with 3 years of direct experience OR

  • Masters Degree in a related field plus 3-5 years equivalent experience

  • Minimum of 2 years experience in Python and other programming languages.

  • Minimum of 2 years experience in scripting language development, debugging and testing.

Candidates must address in their applications their ability to work with culturally diverse populations. This position is contingent on the satisfactory completion of a background check; this position may require annual background checks.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - in addition to minimum requirements

  • Familiarity with network and IT infrastructure

  • Basic to intermediate knowledge of Cyber Security protocols and network infrastructure development

  • Knowledge of automated testing software including REST API testing

  • Experience with JavaScript, CSS and/or HTML

Salary range: $70-$72k for 1-year temporary appointment
