Laboratory Clinical Educator - Full Time - Days

Job Summary
The Laboratory Clinical Educator is responsible for the instruction on laboratory procedures for new employee onboarding, training/re-training of new or existing employees, as well as students in laboratory science. In partnership with local schools, supports the accreditation and implementation of processes for formal educational programs such as MLT, MT/CLT and Phlebotomy. Works under the direction of the Laboratory Quality Manager or designee.
Core Job Responsibilities
Develop, design and deliver instruction in assigned courses and programs on laboratory procedures including those specific to safety of staff and patients, orientation and continuing education for laboratory staff, students, laboratory customers and others.
Develop and provide course syllabi for instruction.
Teach and advise students/trainees/staff.
Serve as a resource and role model within the department.
Collaborate with partners in local colleges to develop and promote educational programs.
Ensure curriculum and clinical rotations meet state and regulatory certification requirements.
Collaborate with other laboratory leaders in revising and developing applicable procedure manuals.
Monitoring quality laboratory initiative data.
Gather quality improvement initiatives data and serves on committees. Including but not limited to: Blood culture contamination rate, redraw rate, etc.
Ensure all participants and trainees are evaluated for competency.
Research instructional devices and materials used in training and competency simulations. Evaluate options and makes recommendations for equipment purchases.
Advance professional development within the Laboratory by studying current trends, new technology/development, teaching methodologies through professional journals, seminars/conferences, professional societies, etc. Use research to develop proposals that may change phlebotomy practices.
With the Quality Manager and Human Resources guidance, may provide input to or makes recommendations on employee hires, performance reviews, transfers, promotions, salary changes, disciplinary actions, terminations and similar actions. Resolve grievances and other staff problems in a fair, timely and consistent manner also in conjunction with HR and Laboratory management.
Follow all organization’s policies and procedures including but not limited to those of infection control, privacy, attendance, safety, quality, mission, vision and values.
Performs other duties as required.
Education/Experience Requirements
REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science/similar degree or equivalent experience.
Six (6) years of work experience in a licensed New York State clinical laboratory.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Concentration needed to assimilate information from many different sources.
Ability to lead, guide and motivate others.
Extensive skills in Microsoft office suite including Word and PowerPoint.
Ability to operate equipment: projectors, audiovisual equipment, cameras, other equipment used in instruction and patient care.
Able to travel to off-site locations.
