The Arc Oneida-Lewis Chapter Document Transport Route Driver in Utica, New York

General Statement of Duties:

This is a local route driving position utilizing a single axle box truck provided by the employer. Primary responsibility is the collection, placement, load, unload, transport, and delivery of wheeled bins under subcontract agreement to specific customer locations. Operate equipment when necessary to load and unload the truck. Maintain detailed records in compliance with employer procedures. Assist in production and warehouse when not driving the truck. Back up other fleet drivers as assigned. Demonstrate professional conduct to include respect, dignity, and compassion when interacting with customers and staff.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

The following is a summary of the essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below and essential functions may change from time to time.

  • Collect, place, load, unload, transport and deliver wheeled bins to assigned locations on route.

  • Remove and replace bins at specific locations inside a variety of customer buildings.

  • Transports bins from customer locations daily and weekly to be destroyed by contracted vendor.

  • Ensure all records for transport, delivery and transfer are recorded and presented accurately and timely.

  • Ensure accuracy of documentation to match number of bins and include all specific information according to company policy.

  • Maintains a high level of security when moving bins by ensuring the accuracy of all bins are retrieved, replaced, and securely locked.

  • Provide exceptional customer service to all customers and staff. Develop and maintain relationships with customer department contacts to ensure contract success both onsite and electronic communication.

  • Maintain contact with supervisor as needed throughout the day as delivery route may change.

  • Maintain truck and ensure it is clean inside and out.

  • Perform routine vehicle maintenance inspections on tractor trailer and equipment to make recommendations for maintenance needs. Keep and track information. Ensure vehicle is road worthy for each trip. Ensure compliance with company policy.

  • Create and maintaining a safe, clean environment for all employees.

  • Meet with manager regularly to review route completion and efficiencies.

  • Ensure compliance with employer, state, federal and DOT regulatory policies and procedures.

  • Maintain good driving habits and comply with all NYS DOT and NYSD Motor Vehicle Laws.

  • Operates company equipment in a safe and efficient manner in an effort to minimize the risk of injury and equipment damage.

  • Assist in warehouse and production when not driving. Operate forklift and power pallet jack to load, unload, and move product.

  • Maintain and promote confidentiality in accordance with Agency policy.

  • Comply with all aspects of the Agency's Safety Policy.

  • Adhere to scheduled hours and submit completed timesheets to supervisor on time each payroll period.

    Qualifications:

    The following qualifications are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential job functions.

    Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Driver must have a clean driving record.

  • Must be familiar with DOT rules and regulations.

  • An approved copy of a Drivers Abstract from NYSDMV and valid medical card if applicable must be available.

  • Possess the overall knowledge of equipment and maintenance routines.

  • Ability to push and pull document bins on wheels that weigh between 40 pounds and 250 pounds on a daily basis.

  • Ability to work independently and function as a team member with a wide range of people.

  • Ability to work flexible schedules which may include early mornings, evenings, and weekends.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate time management and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work in all weather conditions.

  • Must be willing and able to interact with the community and customers in a manner consistent with the Agency's Core Values and upstanding business reputation.

  • Ability to work with and assist other Agency staff members or any other assigned duties.

    Education and Experience

    Any combination equivalent to education and experience that provides the required knowledge and skills.

    Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

  • CDL A license preferred.

  • 3-4 years of general work experience minimum required.

  • 3+ years of commercial driving experience preferred.

  • Local delivery experience preferred.
