The Arc Oneida-Lewis Chapter Classroom Teacher - School to Work Program in Utica, New York

General Statement of Duties:

Provide individualized services to students with disabilities to improve their outcomes after high school and assist with a positive transition from high school to adult life. Such services may include but are not limited to : developing plans for work and life skills training and experiences based on the students Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and personal goals.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Complete referrals for students to obtain eligibility for ACCES-VR and/ or OPWDD and attend meetings if necessary regarding the referrals.

  • Attend annual CSE meetings and school/student meetings and/or provide beneficial information to assist with such meetings.

  • Attend a variety of meetings such as CSE, other parent/teacher meetings, transition fairs and/or, but not limited to open houses, in order to promote and expand referrals for all STW programs for the current & upcoming school years.

  • Complete necessary documentation as it pertains to each student and distribute appropriately to their school personnel and family.

  • Accurately complete and maintain all required agency documentation in the required manner.

  • Provide supervision of students while participating in your program.

  • Assist other school to work co-workers as needed.

  • Participate in staff meetings.

  • Provide classroom based instruction and community based learning experiences based on the students Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and personal goals. Such learning experiences focuses may include but not be limited to: vocational exploration, work life skills, independent living skills, socialization skills and community exploration.

  • Communicate effectively and professionally in any aspect with co-workers, supervisors, community partners, school districts, and families.

  • Must create weekly lesson plans based on approved curriculum for the program.

  • Responsible for providing appropriate instruction of work life skills, vocational skills, independent living skills and community orientation as it pertains to the program and suited around the students needs.

  • Provide individualized services such as, but not limited to : job assessments, job readiness training, work/life skills training, travel training, and other individualized activities as needed.

  • Work closely with multiple school districts and meet individualized needs as requested by school personnel in order to provide necessary support to their students and documentation requirements.

  • Knowledge of CDOS credential, work-based learning standards and regulations.

    Qualifications:

    Education and Experience

    Any combination equivalent to education and experience that provides the required knowledge and skills.

    Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:

  • Bachelor's degree in the field of human services, education, or a related field with at least 1 year experience in a classroom setting.
