Team Overview

Experian is looking for a team-oriented attorney for a dynamic in-house corporate counsel position. In this remote role ,you will provide legal support for Experian's Marketing Services division and report into the Head of Legal.

As Corporate Counsel, you will provide legal support to the team about multiple issues, with a primary focus on strategic contracting and privacy in the marketing and advertising technology space. This includes advising on all relevant laws and regulations to ensure that Experian's offerings align with new privacy obligations in the US.

You will understand the need to balance legal risk assessments with a technically sound approach. This will include analyzing and advising the business of the requirements and

impacts of state laws and regulations, and making recommendations to data privacy and compliance teams.

You will also support the negotiation and drafting of strategic agreements and standard commercial clauses, while also conducting product regulatory reviews and risk assessments.

Specific experience in a relevant regulatory practice, with experience in digital marketing and applicable privacy laws, will be a consideration. You will adapt to the requirements of the role as the business and regulatory landscape evolves, and be familiar with privacy requirements of the GDPR.

What You'll Do

  • Lead advisement in daily and strategic commercial agreements for data processing and applicable privacy laws, best practices, risk assessment, and diligence

  • Advise on requirements and application of US privacy laws, regulations and enforcement trends and familiarity with GDPR requirements

  • Provide legal advice for negotiating data processing, data transfer, and other data protection agreements

  • Support product groups and business development team to advise on product development projects, or new partnerships

  • Provide legal support to compliance teams for data processing risk assessments and other risk mitigation activities

  • Contribute to the preparation of records of processing, data mapping, and similar legal compliance exercises

  • Collaborate with internal partners to respond to requests from regulators, law enforcement and customers.

Qualifications

  • Law degree (J.D.) and 5+ years of experience working in a law firm or in-house legal department, ideally at a publisher, ad-tech, or marketing company focusing on privacy law and applicable impact

  • Licensed to practice in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar, in the location of practice

  • Experience handling a variety of issues, including privacy issues relating to digital advertising and media, and advanced understanding of the digital landscape and related data collection and processing

  • Lead matters as a member of the corporate legal team and with non-legal professionals

  • Availability to regularly work Eastern or Central Time hours
