Bowman Fire Protection Consultant - Remote, US in US, United States

Purpose

Work with licensed fire protection engineers to perform all aspects of fire protection engineering, including system design, review, analysis, and implementation.

Responsibilities

Leadership and Direction

  • Receive general instruction on key objectives for execution.

  • Receive direction as needed, especially on difficult assignments and possible solutions.

  • Work is completed using fire protection engineering techniques and principles and is reviewed by more senior staff.

At the Operational and Company Level

  • Interact and communicate with clients, customers, officials, contractors, and others from project start to completion.

  • Attend and participate in project meetings, as needed.

Do the Work

  • Design fire protection and life safety systems.

  • Perform hydrant flow testing under supervision.

  • Perform fire protection design calculations including hydraulic analysis of fire water supply and demand.

  • Analyze and interpret fire protection and life safety data to support successful solutions.

  • Perform field surveys and document fire protection systems and building life safety features.

  • Prepare life safety plans and code compliance narratives related to local, state and federal codes and standards.

  • Support construction administration including field surveys, review of contractor submittals, review, and resolution of change orders, and witnessing tests of fire protection systems, under the direction of a licensed professional engineer.

  • Assist in commissioning of fire protection and life safety systems.

  • Prepare project documents to track successful implementation from start to finish.

  • Apply knowledge of fire protection code and standards in broad areas of assignments.

  • Troubleshoot problems in implementation as they arise, offer solutions based on knowledge of fire protection and safety systems.

  • Develop a working knowledge of codes applicable to the discipline

  • Attend coordination and design meetings, as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering, a related engineering discipline with fire protection engineering experience, or a fire protection related field (such as fire science, fire administration or fire protection engineering technology).

  • Zero to five (0-5) years of work experience in the field of fire protection engineering.

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) preferred.

  • Revit or AutoCAD experience preferred.

Physical Demands and Working Environment

  • Partly indoor professional office environment which may include bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic.

  • Mobility around an office environment.

  • Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.

  • Partly outdoor work environment which may include adverse weather conditions, varying temperatures, excessive noise, and/or potential hazards.

  • Mobility around a job/construction site to include walking, bending, crawling, climbing, squatting, or kneeling and wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

  • Occasional lifting or carrying up to 40 pounds.

  • Occasional pushing or pulling up to 40 pounds.

  • Occasional reaching outward or above shoulder.
