    Position Summary:

    Special educator will provide consultation and direct support to students enrolled at Carle Auditory Oral School who have additional disabilities, on top of hearing loss. Additionally, this position will provide support to parents and staff members at Carle Auditory Oral School to maximize learning outcomes.

    Qualifications:

    EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Bachelors Special Education CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS Professional Educator's License (PEL) Endorsed for Learning Behavior Specialist I Illinois or Equivalent license from another state and candidate must obtain PEL within first year of employment and Basic Life Support (BLS) EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Five (5) years of experience teaching children with learning and behavior disorders. SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE Ability to communicate well with parents and staff members, ability to connect with students, ability to see the potential within each child.

    Essential Functions:

  • Provide direct support to children/ staff in the classroom to promote a positive learning environment.

  • Provide direct support to children in a one to one setting to develop positive behavior and engagement.

  • Provide consultation to staff and parents to create a scaffolded intervention plan to maximize each student's learning.

  • Train staff to independently implement behavior strategies.

  • Develop and monitor behavior plans.

  • Participate in Problem Solving Team Meetings for CAOS students.

  • Observe students suspected of having additional challenges upon teacher request.
